If he wipes out Guerrero this weekend David Lemieux will surely be in serious contention at middle.
Has he improved sufficiently to be a real threat?
    Or are his flaws unfixable?

"Back in the mix?" the wording of this thread makes the assumption that Lemieux was actually in the mix...

    NOT!!!!

    I predict fireworks Leonardo.....FIREWORKS!!!

Lemieux has changed coaches and has been working on new things, but now we'll find out if he's improved because he's in a real test against Guerrero who is dangerous, although a bit fragile like Lemieux himself.
I think Lemieux will probably have too much power for Guerrero, so i'm going for him in a KO, but i won't be surprised if Guerrero gets to him first. It's a 50/50 fight IMO and whoever wins will be one fight away from a title shot :bbb

This would easily be the biggest win of Lemieux's career because he never really reached contender status before his losses.

I don't know it his flaws are "unfixable" but he did have a few pretty serious ones. I find it hard to believe he'll suddenly develop into a legitimate threat for the top guys at his weight.

Beating Guerrero isn't such a huge accomplishment.
The only reason the guy still has somewhat of a decent record is the sheer amount of robberies that went his way.
Every guy with a decent punch has dropped jim in their fight and Lemieux should have no problem finishing the overrated American off.

That said, it might bring him back in the mix anyway because Guerrero is rated higher as he should for a guy his level.

If lemieux is half as good as some say he should beat guerrero pretty easy. If he wins a quillan fight would be explosive, if incredibly short

To be fair, I don't think there's many people claiming Lemieux is very good.

Nope, he isn't. Just a very hard puncher.

While he may have once been a golden child of sorts, Guerrero at this stage ought to no longer be a 'golden ticket' for anybody to get back in any mix.

Since being upset by Grady Brewer three years ago, he beat a handful of journeymen (combined record 78-49-8, best name among them a way past-it JC Candelo), got beaten up by Kid Chocolate, and squeaked by Ray Gatica who didn't even advance past the semifinals of the ESPN2 FNF Boxcino tournament.

Let's keep it real, now. Guerrero, while more skilled and talented, probably will get wiped out by Lemieux simply because that is what happens when someone is too fragile to withstand big power thrown at them - but it shouldn't mean anything big for Lemieux. Nothing besides lining up defenses of his new shiny NABF title against NABF-caliber opposition. (ie Patrick Majewski, Jose Torres rematch, maybe Curtis Stevens if he wants to cash out and risk getting KTFO, etc)

    :?

First off, who ever put Lemieux and Pirog in the same category?

2nd, who said Lemieux could whoop Martinez?

3rd, how do you know Pirog couldn't beat Martinez?

Lemieux got exposed as limited. Pirog got sidelined by injuries. Two completely different reasons for not reaching the upper echelon - although if memory serves most real fans were only projecting that Pirog would do so.

Lemieux - even before he ran into Rubio and lost his unbeaten prospect luster - was always just a raw guy with big enough power to maybe smash his way to a title but not enough skill to ever keep one for long or be elite.

Personally I never rated Lemieux as world champ material prior to his falling apart against Rubio.
However I must admit to a sneaking admiration for the way he has quietly rebuilt from there - I do think he is a lot more measured and pacing himself a lot better now. Plus he will always have a "punchers chance" in any fight. His power is incredible - if his overall game was as good as his punch he would be invincible.

Leaving aside the "big 3" Sergio-GGG-Sturm,I cant help feeeling that if Lemieux keeps winning he will certainly soon be a threat any one of to the rest of the chasing pack (Murray,Macklin, HNN, Quillin etc etc).
Ultimately his frailties will betray him (again). But between now and then he could provide us with some serious high-octane entertainment.
