David Lemieux's manager Camille Estephan said after the fight that he believes Gennady Golovkin is the best fighter in the sport today. http://montrealgazette.com/sports/lemieux-was-game-against-golovkin-but-was-worked-over-by-a-pro Hard to argue this after Golovkin's masterful performance. Hopefully we can learn more if/when Golovkin faces the winner of the Cotto vs Canelo bout that's coming up in November.
It's a good question. Fat Dan at ESPN seems to be lobbying for Golovkin as the #1 pound-for-pound spot. I think BoxRec has GGG at #1 PFP, but I know Ring Magazine had GGG at #4. It's a question up for debate. Lemieux's manager seems convinced, though.
We have enough Boxing organizations that ranks fighters-we certainly don't need another press and fan based mythical ranking system that means absolutely nothing and can't be proved. It's just silly.
Ring Magazine is owned by DLH, so it can't be considered objective. Neither can ESPN ratings. Boxrec has Golovkin #2 behind Wlad. However, bottom weight classes have very low point base in boxrec, so boxrec ratings under 140 are no good. That doesn't allow Gonzalez to get even in top 10 p4p.
