Lennox Lewis 1997 vs Joe Frazier 1971

no idea about this one, lewis might spark out frazier early but Frazierm ight wear Lewis down with pressure late in the fight

 

Lewis KO's Frazier in the mid rounds. And this is coming from a lifetime Lewis hater.

 

Lewis by stoppage anywhere between 2 and 7.

 

Frazier takes his heart then knockes him out. The level of Lewis worship on this forum is unbelievable to say the least. It must reflect the average age of the posters here I guess.

When you have guys admiting they're Lewis haters picking Lewis it kind of throws your point clean out the window doesn't it?

 

Lennox has the capability to take him out early just like Foreman did and Oscar Bonavena almost did before him in their first meeting.

I'm just not sure what Lennox would choose to do. If he tries to box him and then is forced to fight, it might wind up like the Mercer fight only you don't want to allow Frazier to get warmed up. Although, I think Mercer is the bigger stronger fighter. Just not the machine that Frazier was nor does he have that awesome left-hook or killer body-attack.

However, I wonder how Frazier reacts to taking a bomb from Lennox. I don't think Frazier takes it well if Lewis decides to unleash with full force.

It might be wise to try to take Frazier out early. If he gets warmed up, he forces fighters to go through hell.

Lewis has some fight in him so never overlook that.

 

you still can't ignore that fight. Lewis might well have lost it. i personally had it a draw but it could've gone either way.

 

Im not sure would Frazier be able to deal with Lewis's jab or height/weight advantage but its possible he could win by knockout.Im going to go with a lewis decision or late stoppage from an accumulation of punishment

True, but specifically with balance issues. Emanuel helped Lewis with his balance as well as making him a smarter fighter. He, like Wlad, was taught to understand their strengths and weaknesses and how to fight in a manner that suited them to win. Not excite, but to win. Or as George Benton was quoted: [SIZE=-1] "Win this fight, look good in the next one."
However, I think they may have gotten to comfortable with it since I've always had a feeling Emanuel just wanted to train them up to make them confident and understand how to win but not necessarily continue to stick with that way all through the fight. He still seemed to want a Tommy Hearns type of fighter. A fighter capable of boxing but also of knocking MFers out.

That fight in Lewis was always there and was more so in front before Emanuel got a hold of him. I'm not sure he was better, just smarter when to use it. Emanuel made him a better "boxer" but as far as a fighter...he always was a good fighter.

There was an article I should find that talks about his mentality at the time (prior to Emanuel).
