By not being matched up as a 37 year old maybe? Lewis was practically done by this fight too IMO. Wasn't a patch on the version around the Grant/Golota fights. (you do know Lewis is actually older than Tyson right?) A prime Lewis could win this fight, definitely , but probably wouldn't. A live underdog as they say.
in '67 Foreman was still an amateur, and hadn't even been to the Olympics yet. And of course I favour Foreman over Lewis (check my avatar) but the statement stays. Ali had never faced something like Lewis before (as big, athletic, powerfull) and would not try to KO him (as he should if he had known Lewis' weakness) but stick and move... and then it would be the question who gets the decision.
There is absolutely, no way, not even close, that lewis KO's ali. Ali didn't go down easy and he faced some of the strongest punchers of all time(foreman/norton/frazier). Lewis cannot handle the speed of Ali. He wins a couple of rounds, i will give him that, but ali takes the decision.
older than tyson? yea but you should have known when people mentioned Tyson of 2001, then you wont get much credibility by beating that version of Mike. Tyson was stopped by journeyman in fifth round twice not long after that. Ali has never been stopped in his career even when he fought Holmes while already developing parkinson disease, he took plenty of huge punches and managed to stand on his feet. Lewis is huge compare to someone like Tyson, Holyfield & Tua, but Ali himself is about 192cm's tall. Lewis also had trouble getting away from someone who can outjab him like Bruno & Klitch
When looking at Ali's career, what makes you think Ali would be stopped by Lewis? In the 1999 fights with Holyfield he couldn't stop him, but this version of Lennox would TKO Ali? I suppose he did destroy the ATG's Botha and Grant in 2000, so I can see your logic atsch
Its difficult to judge accross era's because of the physical changes that have happened over just a few decades. Ali in his time was ahead of the rest when it came to his genetics which coupled with his natural ability, intelligence and mental toughness was too much for just about anyone to compete with. These are all the things that set him apart and make him the best ever, THE GREATEST! However, we can't ignore the physical advantages that Lennox benefits from in this match up. He also shares some of Ali's other attributes like Mental strength, Athletic ability, natural skills, speed etc... Lewis would win not because he was a better man or boxer but because evolution has given him the tools to do so and, like Ali before him, Lennox can add those tools to his other attributes and become too big a proposition for Ali.
Lewis troubles Ali 10/10 times, kinda like the Norton fights where all the fights are close. In the end, I say Lewis wins 6 out of 10.
Ali never goes for the KO. He softens you up with jabs and those quick ****ing hooks, and when you look like you want to lie down he gives you an excuse to do it. Ali beat Foreman - a Foreman who would be a BIG favorite over ANY version of Lewis - when he was well past his prime and no longer even mobile. 68 Ali was stronger, faster, 10 more mobile and with a much higher punch output than the 1974 version that KNOCKED OUT PRIME ****ING GEORGE ****ING FOREMAN. Lewis isn't on that level. Not for a day in his life. Unless he presents some crazy style problem for Ali like Ken Norton did, Ali will dismiss him like any other contender. Lewis loses to the Sonny Liston that 64 Ali beat easily. I like Lewis. He's a gentleman, a great ambassador for the sport, he has a much better heart than he does a chin and he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but he ain't beating any version of Ali from 64 to roughly 74.
