Ike was supposed to fight Michael grant and winner got Lewis !!! Until Ike messed up !!! Anyway in hand all these yrs later - Ike never beat a big man : tua 5 foot 9 and Byrd 6 foot 1 ::: Lennox Lewis is 6 foot 5 with 84 reach and 247 lbs with many amateur fights against Ike limited amateur and only 20 pro bouts has never fought a tall heavyweight with a huge punch !! Lennox Lewis knocks out Ike ibeabuchi by rd 9 !!!! Your thoughts !
The bottom line is this - no one is going to give Ibeabuchi the benefit of the doubt in this match up.
Bobby Czyż did it, he once said that if it weren't for Ike's imprisonment, he would have easily won against Lewis and Tyson. I agree with this, but I don't think it's simple
He probably would have won easily against Tyson in a fight around 2000-01. I doubt King lets that fight happen. Lewis’ is beatable for Ibeabuchi but he never did enough to warrant benefit of the doubt.
Lewis by UD. Maybe not a popular opinion, but I tend to think that Ike is overrated. He was a very good of course, but he didn't prove enough at world level to see him winning against such an elite opponent in Lewis. He KOed Byrd yes, but they were on even terms before Ike catched him with the uppercut. The decision against Tua is very controversial to me, as a draw could have easily been given (no way Ike won by 9 points like a judge gave it to him). Personally, I thought Tua won.
Unfortunately, no, I don't even remember what the circumstances were, but it was generally about the Lewis-Tyson fight which took place a few years later, but it was talked about after Lewis won against Holy, and then Czyz's statement was that Ike is better than both. As for the fight itself, the Ike-Grant fight would answer a lot to this question, where I think it would be an easy victory for Ike. He certainly could have been better than Rahman, McCall or Mercer at the time... but would he have beaten Lennox? Let's remember that both he and Tua took a lot of health in their fight in 1997.
Lewis quite easily by UD, namely Ike was not a sufficiently proven fighter, he did have Byrd and Tua on his resume, but that is not enough to compete with Lewis...
I'd favor Lewis in this one. But in a competitive fight. Ike had great engine and workrate, and Lennox liked to control the pase of the fight, he found it hard against those guys who fought him with high intensity. Oh, and Ike would've absolutely destroyed Grant if they ever met. Early KO
