I don't agree that he would have a long title reign. I certainly agree that he could find his way to a title briefly. But back to the original subject, neither Wilder nor Shavers could have an extended reign without fraudulent promotion, and Shavers never would have had that kind of backing.
eh. throw Shavers in a weak era where he's demolishing everyone in 1-2 rounds with spectacular knockouts and he'd get the backing.
No. He doesn't have a medal or other feeling point. Besides, what weak era would that be? Late 70s early 80s when he fought was as weak as it gets.
They both have big ass Champion Hearts and both have big ass right hands (WIlder's is even more powerful, which is saying a lot). But Lennox is 10X the boxer Deontay ever was. I think there's still a debate as far as their chins go, as I'm not sure LL would have been rocked too hard by Fury (who really isn't a big puncher as a rule). Lennox also definitely has the edge on the jab as well as endurance. ANNND: as far as wins against estimable opposition. Deontay proved he was a great fighter by showing he has a terrific Battle Heart...but only against Fury. While that's still something, he didn't come back from devastating defeats to completely pulverize the men who beat him (though Deontay showed plenty of Championship Courage in the last two fights against Fury, especially number three).
He got two title shots. They were against Ali and Holmes. Maybe use a time machine and give him title shots against Louis and Lewis, ensure he has as rough a time as possible?
Both guys are tall, both guys are dark skinned, bith at one time had dreads, both have a good right hand. After that I got nothing
Wilder is nowhere close to the boxer Lennox was. Lennox, in his prime, could easily clean up the current division. Including Fury, Joshua, Wilder & Usyk. Wilder's right hand isn't even as strong as Lennox and that's all Wilder has.
The garbage resume allows even this to be called into question... The bulk of his opponents have either had very average chins or been very easy to load up on and hit - it's not difficult to maintain a very high KO ratio with a good but not necessarily special power. If anything, his ability to take an accumulation of punishment and keep going is a greater asset - with an ordinary chin, he'd have losses to a very average fighter in Ortiz on his record, too.
Lewis was a far better combo puncher and had better footwork, no way could Fury handle Lewis the way he handled Wilder, Lewis was trained by Manny who trained more world champs than any other trainer, Wilder was trained by idiots.
Their only similarity is both are fighters. Wilder is part time street fighter who is actually basketballer and Lewis is true fighter.
