Bowe and Newman wanted to give a Lewis fight time to build into a major attraction, meanwhile taking an easy defense against Dokes (which many champs do when they win a title), and then taking a planned fight against top contender Ray Mercer (which got derailed because Mercer lost to journeyman Jesse Ferguson).

They then wanted to take on Holyfield in a rematch for big, big bucks. A Lewis fight would likely have occurred after that. What they didn't bank on was Holyfield winning the rematch and upsetting the trajectory toward a match with Lewis - a match that would have been much bigger as a unification fight, with Lewis holding the WBC title

What many people don't remember is that Lewis was not particularly well known at that time in the U.S. and wouldn't have brought the sort of payday to justify the risk. Far more money could be taking on Mercer, and then Holyfield. The Holyfield rematch alone offered a much bigger payday!

People talk a lot of nonsense about this fight, essentially repeating Lewis camp propaganda - which Lewis himself threw around on the video - that Bowe was "afraid" of him. Forget the fact that it can't be proven, it's just silly. The fight didn't happen for the same reason that many fights don't happen - money. Don't believe the propaganda.

Lewis-Bowe in '93 would've been an absolute piece of cake to market.
HBO themselves were willing to put a $32m purse on the table for it.

Bowe looking to get revenge, Lewis an Olympic Gold winner, Bowe just having an awesome fight with Holyfield, Lewis clocking one of the most feared heavyweights in the division in two, both large 'proper' heavyweights, both young and unbeaten, USA vs UK...

Seriously, this would've been an absolute breeze.

That would be Rock Newman, Bowe's former manager.

Lewis was knocked out by McCall,Rahman and hurt by Briggs, out boxed by Frank Bruno and given life or death by Ray Mercer in a fight he arguably lost.

Oh he also took a beating from Vitali.

Bowe was having his way on the indside with Lewis in that amatuer fight. Lewis won, because of a debatable stoppage.

Also Lewis was offered the fight with Bowe and he turned it down.

eltoreente, yeah bowe had a lot of good qualities as a fighter but most of all he had a FEAR and LACK of CONFIDENCE to face Lewis as was so obviously expressed in this clip. Lewis would beat Bowe seven days a weak and on his worst day. but then again Lewis would never have a bad with Bowe he would have made sure he was 100% motivated and ready for Bowe.

Clear and simple and obvious, Lewis KO bowe - anytime anywhere.

    Please.
Lennox was fighting very able guys in these fights.
What are you truly expecting, in order for one to vindicate the claim Bowe wanted nothing of him, for Lennox to have completely annihilated these guys without breaking a sweat?
Briggs was undefeated and as soon as Lennox found a rhythm he completely destroyed him.
Bruno? He still KOd him. Different styles and you're ignoring that. Lennox rarely wound up his punch total on a round by round basis. And he still dropped Bruno to win.

He loses to McCall. Okay, then he comes back to beat him (tears or dry eyes, he still lost and was losing on the card prior to his theatric breakdown).

He amazingly quick work of the physically remolded Botha.
He made Tua look like a club fighter.
He made Grant look like Glass Joe.
He gave Morrison a reason to be thankful for the delay after the Bentt fight.

    Bowe didn't want him.
You guys can dress it up anyway you want to, he simply didn't want him.

And to the guy talking about the profile level of the fight?
That was November 92 in which Bowe beat Holyfield.
Lennox already put the dangerous Ruddock away the month before. People knew who Lennox was because they knew who Ruddock was.
Ruddock was taken out sooner by Lewis than Tyson could do it.
There was excitement to the fight. Lennox was not an unknown.

Also, it's not like Dokes, Ferguson and Mathis had huge followings. Lewis could bring more Brit fans than D/F & M could scavange up Stateside.

I wish that both Lewis and Bowe would have threw a left hook at the same time, with both accidentally hitting Newman in the both sides of his face.

What B.S. I wasn't as big a boxing fan then as I was now, and I easily knew who LL was. I remember Bowe being shown on Sportcenter dumping his belt in the trash because he was SCARED to fight Lennox. He got his ass kncoked out in the amateurs and would have in the pro's as well and he knew it.

    Both avenged by brutal KO.

    Hurt ?

    Is this new ?

Is Boxrec going to record 'hurts' with wins, losses etc ?

Who gives a **** if he was hurt.

Briggs was hurt worse in that Lennox KOd him !

    Lennox KOd Bruno.

No. He WON that fight too, just like he did the Briggs and the Klitschko ones you mentioned.

    Lennox stopped Klitschko in 6.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

DId you even SEE the fight ?

A psychologically debilitating humiliation for Bowe that resulted in a life-long involuntary loosening of his anal sphincter every time Lennox's name gets mentioned.

Bowe threw away his belt rather than try to conquer his fear of the Lion.

Now tell me, was your post serious ?

Or a subtle attempt at humor ?

I feel kinda foolish responding to it if you was only joking.

But I got a feeling you were trying to be serious.:rofl
