Lennox Lewis and the Klitschkos are the best of all time

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Phill-Mitchell, Aug 22, 2012.

  1. Obviously this fact will upset some people who will attempt to proclaim Tyson or Ali the greatest, but it's time to accept it.

These guys are too big, too strong, too good.

Lewis was the prototype, K2 perfected the formula.

It's also nice to have scholars and gentlemen atop the tree, rather than the 2 bit street thugs we have seen in the past.

I look forward to the future too, where guys like David Price. Will continue the trend

    H2H? definetly

They would mop the floor with primitive shrimps like Marciano and Dempsey

Lennox and Vitali at least, I have my doubts with Wlad due to his pourcelain mandible

Yep! I agree with the original poster, and the gap to number four is quite a wide one too!

    Honestly, H2H they are 1,2,3.

I think it's unreasonable for people to expect athletes in ANY sport from 50 years ago to compete current athletes dominating the sport.

People will never take off the rose tinted glasses though.

    h2h.

They are 3 of the top 5. It is undeniable.

Resume, they didn't have the luxury Ali did to fill it. It's not k2's fault this era is ****. It's not Lennox's fault Bowe hid in a trash can,.

All three of them are capable of beating anybody. The real big questionmark about this kind of topic is we never saw the old time fighters compete against competition like Lewis or the Klitschkos. Some people will automatically say "Primo Carnera" but they might as well be saying Timo Hoffmann or Kevin McBride. I think if Lewis fought any heavyweight boxer in history two times he would probably win at least one.

Pound for pound in the HW div I wouldn't say they are the best at all, but H2H probably they are. Too big for the previous eras.

How can the Klitschkos be the best of all time? Look at who they've beaten, and look at who they've lost to.

I definitely think Lewis is the best head to head fighter ever seen. Everyone beneath Lewis on a head to head basis is debatable in where they'd rank (in my opinion). I think it's too speculative to rank Vitali as highly as he may deserve because he just hasn't fought the opponents to prove his ability. The injuries that brought about his early retirement saw to that. Wlad could be right up there though. A lot of the greats can make a case on a head to head basis, but similarly you can make arguments against them too. That's true for all the great heavies in history.

IDK......Guys like Ernie Banks, Willie Mays, Joe D, Teddy Ballgame, the Babe, Sweet Lou........Baseball is a game that transcends era. Although it's doubtful Babe or any of those guys who be hitting 50+ homers a yr or anything like that, but Lou Brock would still steal 80 bases, and Williams would still hit 350.

But yeah.....boxing it a game where bigger is usually better, esp at HW. When nonskilled giants like Primo Carnera were considered ATGs......my god, imagine if Julius Long vs Carnera went down.

If JL was born in the 20s, he'd likely have ruled the roost until Ali came along when he was old and outboxed him.:yep

I'll go ahead now and admit that Lewis is the GOAT. But Wlad and Vitali are not #2 and #3. Vitali could have been #2 had he gotten the rematch and won, and faced Valuev, Toney, Ruiz, and rematched Byrd or beaten Briggs, Krasniqi or Liakovich during his retirement.

Wlad will not break top 5 unless he runs that streak up. Even then, H2H, Ali beats him, young Foreman likely does, as does young Tyson, Louis, and maybe even Holmes.
I'd put Wlad at #4 or #5 ATG if he wins another 5 before retirement. Vitali can break the top 10 if Charr or any of his past defenses comes back to win a title or he gets Haye and KOs him.
