In this bout Lewis was at his best. He caught Golata quickly and had him on the canvass and Golata was on Shaky legs as he rose but had to practically Waltz across the ring. In knockdown two the ref did not bother to count. Lewis' power was clearly shown on the "Perplexed and Surprised" look on Golata's face.......This bout was Lewis at his absolute best.........no doubt.....The Duva clan who were managing Golata made have made a mistake by having Golata fight 3 big fights in a row. Two against Rowe and then Lewis.....He needed a break of some sort......:smoke............
This might come as a surprise to you but Golota took an injection of lidocaine to his knee just before the fight and had a bad allergic reaction to it, which led to him being very nervous and ultimately having cardiac arrest. Lewis might as well have been punching a coma victim. The fight should have never happened that night. Golota wanted out but his management forced him to fight.
I was at that fight . We had binoculars Golata was having some kind of Anxiety attack or something He was very late for the fight . Then when I saw him he was hyperventalting. I told my buudy he wont last one min, I think he lasted almost 2.....The Polish fans were all fighting in the stands it was nuts... Anyone else there its was1997 in A/c ??????
Yes, 100% correct. He was hyperventilating because he was minutes from going into cardiac arrest. He actually stopped breathing and needed to be resuscitated. Only Golota can have such luck. What cracks me up is the Lewis backers who say Lewis crushed him. Yes, he crushed an "invalid" in a sense.
I would have thought taking any kind of drugs prior to a fight without commission approval would be grounds for disqualification, however there seems to be all kinds of stories about this happening...with damn near every fighter having Lewis as an opponent. Let's see, Golota, McCall II, Tyson..why not add Tua, and Rahman II to the mix as well. And since Ruddock was blown out of the water and Grant, they were probably on something too. I'm no trainer, but my advice is don't take drugs before getting into the ring with Lewis, doesn't seem like a good idea.
:deal Exactly. It's not a good idea to get in the ring with a 6"5, 17-1/2 stone primed and ready physical specimen, when you have had a little dose of something. Cardiac arrest my arse, the only thing Golota had was a panic attack at the realisation of what he was about to face. How come this fight was 14 years ago and i have only heard this bullsh*t drug and heart attack story in the last 2 months on this site from the same few people. I have never heard it from Golota, the Duva's or anyone else. The man got rag-dolled by the number one. It really is that simple. :rasta
Lewis destroyed him and it was hilarious... Cardiac arrest my ass, the guy got straight up raped by a Heavyweight MACHINE, baby. Deal with it.
Uh...it was pretty well covered at the time and made the news. Like right after the fight, just google it and you'll find some articles. This does not discredit Lennox Lewis, its just the typical weirdness that is Andrew Golota's career.
True. Yeah i remember the panic attack story at the time, but nothing about no heart attack or injection. What was the cause of a panic attack i wonder from a man who had just fought nearly 20 rounds at Madison Square Garden against Riddick Bowe ? At the end of the day he looked alright during the introductions and he started the fight okay. Then it was rag-doll time!! One thing i will point out is the acne on Golota's back, a tell tale sign of steroid abuse. They did'nt do him much good though.
-The "injection" allegation did come out immediately after the fight. And he did in fact have a seizure and alergic reaction. Go look at the weights. Lewis never even closely weighed that much before or 3 years after that. According to some on ESB that's how you judge if someone is in shape.
