Lewis had a normal chin, not granite nor glass either. The Rahman first fight he was under prepared, blowing after a few rounds and turned away when getting ko'd. If he had glass chin he would not have been as good as he was.
Interesting. I've sen lots of journeyman that I thought had decent skills but went down as soon as they got hit with a decent shot. A lot of people just don't have the durability to take much punishment from a pro boxer.
Lewis was neither iron jawed nor glass jawed. He could be knocked out but he wasn't easy to knock out. He took some massive shots from Vitali Klitschko and was wobbled but didn't go down.
I mean to take punches from big guys who are pro boxers takes at least a decent chin right? He got past Tua, Tyson, Ruddock, Briggs, Mercer, and Morrison without his chin costing him. Maybe comparing him to other top ten heavyweights he's on the lower half in the chin area, but that's compared to Holyfield, Ali, Tyson, ect. Most of those guys were durable.
Vitali was regarded as a feather fisted puncher who relied on accumulated punishment to KO his opponents late. Danny Williams clarified in an interview that Vitali's power was nothing compared to a shot Tysons punches. Had those been Wladimir's right hands on lenni's face, we would have seen a different conclusion.
"In Heavy weight boxing, any one can end things with one punch", "We are two big guys both capable of ending things with one punch", "He threw a great punch which my chin just got in the way off". I have never seen any major Heavy weight with a warrior mentality ever make these kind of statements ever in history. His chin was better than Frank Bruno's but only slightly, Emmanual Steward saved him and gave him a template which allowed him to save his chin.
The shot Rahman hit Lewis with was a monster, hands down on the chin, not many would get up from that... I should say i met Lennox in Dussdorf airport the morning after Fury vs Wlad, he was flying to Atlanta and he was an absolute gent. Gave me and my 3 mates 10 mins to chat about the fight and his take on it... In his own words "you guys saw history tonite" :rasta Was a great end to a lads wkend away to watch the boxing
Not really, i would back the likes of Foreman, Holyfield, Tyson to take that shot from Rahman relatively comfortably.
Lewis had a good beard. Technically he was stopped twice, but he McCall stoppage was bull****, and everyone knew it at the time. It was a Don King job. In my book, he was dropped once and stopped once. That means that he successfully took punches from Tyson, Holyfield, VitKlit, Briggs, Grant, Tua, Golota, Ruddock, Bruno, Mason, Morrison, Mercer and any number of others without going down. Good chin.
He didn't really see the Rahman shot coming. He seemed to flinch and turn away and hoped his gloves would stop it. He was probably surprised when he felt the impact. That said, does any top ten heavyweight have a lesser chin? Maybe Joe Louis, who got knocked out by Schmeling?
