I doubt that. If his point was to bring humor into this, he failed miserably. However, if he was just trolling (as I figure), then he's done well.

He went into the ring and realizes that he doesn't have it anymore. He was slower, he wasn't as sharp and he was tired pretty early in the fight. Vitaly had every opportunity to stop Lewis but he couldn't.

Hasim Rahman, David Tua, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, or Ray Mercer would have prayed to have that version of Lewis in front of them. Vitaly was supposed to, that night, become the Heavyweight Champion of the world and start a new era; instead he was stopped by one of the worst versions of Lewis to enter the ring.

While I wanted and many others wanted a rematch; Lewis who was just about mentally retired at that point decided that if he was able beat Vitaly in that condition then coming in shape he'd clobber him. Thing is Lewis knew Vitaly was no slouch and that that point in his career he didn't have the discipline and sacrifice and put together the kind of training camp to show up in stellar condition especially since his body was already starting to break down.
