Yup total bum. Just lucky none of his first 37 opponents thought to try and win.

And Lennox Lewis is crap, his entirely career being built off beating shot Tyson. I mean it's not like he also beat Razor Ruddock, Holyfield, Golota, Vitali etc., nope his entire legacy is beating Tyson.

    Great post.

Etienne was better than anyone Ali would be able to beat after Holmes. You'd probably have to go back to 76-77 for Ali to beat such an opponent convincingly. Maybe even further.

Nah, Lewis could have taken him out earlier....If not for Tyson's iron jaw.

    1. Lennox Lewis is unquestionably an atg heavyweight.
    2. Prime Lewis beats any version of Tyson as he is not only a greater fighter than Mike but also has the perfect style to beat him.
    3. Lennox is delusional if he believes Mike wasn't "older" meaning more past his prime, as Lennox claims he was old as well. I am very surprised he wrote that.

All respect, Stitches, but though I agree Lewis should have finished earlier...I dont think of Mike when I think of the term "Iron jaw". Mike could take a very good shot, but neither Douglas nor Holyfield were notably big punchers.

This thread should have come with free hankies and tissues for the usual suspects.

Yes some nice little tidbits in there.

Tyson being one dimensional is carved in stone, tho like Foreman it is one helluva dimension.

Lewis's in the ring respect for even a past prime Tyson is impressive.

No, but they hit him with plenty, especially Douglas.

Totally agree with 1 and 3. Don't agree with 2 at all. 88 Tyson would have KOd any version of Lewis.

Whos better H2H ?. Lewis fought and beat actual skilled SHWs unlike most guys from the 70s and he himself could use his size well against smaller opponents. He also beat every fighter he ever faced and had almost everything. Size, Strength, Reach, Power, ATG jab, had one of the best trainers of all time, good infighting abilities when needed, could box and move when needed. He was the complete package. He had a questionable chin but he could adjust and beat the guys who KO'd him. He also beat bigger punchers than the guys he got KO'd by.

I think Ali ranks higher ob the ATG list and Holmes arguably does too along with Joe Louis if you pick him to beat todays giant SHWs but H2H i think Lewis is number 1

Douglas was, according to the strong chinned oliver McCall, a harder puncher than lennox Lewis.
    https://www.boxinginsider.com/headlines/oliver-mccall-recalls-the-night-he-knocked-out-lennox/
I strongly agree that Holyfield was not that powerful as a puncher, but then again he certainly could hit harder than Holmes or Jimmy young.
I mean he dropped Riddick Bowe, Ray Mercer and almost staggered Foreman.
Tyson was no George, Tua, Ali or Chuvalo but he sure as hell could take a hell of punch!
Not an all time great jaw but certainely an "Iron chin".
Especially when you know how many heavy punchers Mike Tyson traded bombs with during his whole career.
Frank Bruno, not once but TWICE.
Donovan razor ruddock, not once but TWICE.
Lennox Lewis, who finally managed to put Tyson down after battering him badly for 7 rounds.
Buster Douglas, who had more power than Lewis, put him down after throwing absolutley everything he had on him for 10 damn rounds!
And also James Bonecrusher smith, Who according to bruno, hit harder than Witherspoon,Lewis and Tyson!!

Even Ribalta said Smith hit him harder than both Tyson and Vitali and Bruno.

Golota maybe deserves a mention too.

    BEST PUNCHER
LENNOX LEWIS: There was two; both come from London. The first one was with Bruno. I got hit with a right hand (in the first round) … and it made my eye swell. It made me timid coming in because if you hit it again, it’s gonna split, and I never had my eye cut in a fight. The second one would have to be in the third round of the second fight with Lennox Lewis. The punch I got hit with – and I remember that punch – it was a wallop. I looked over his shoulder and saw his momma rooting for him to knock me out, and I thought of my momma not being there. When that man hit me I was going to retaliate, and I broke down. The overhand right that hit me sent me reeling into the ropes, and as I came back I could have just held him if I hadn’t broken down. I thought, “Wow.” I just shut down. I’d pick Lennox. I’m just going off what went through my mind. Bruno hit me dead in the eye, but it wasn’t as brutal as far as the shock to my body or pain as that right hand was. When Lennox hit me with that right hand in the third round, that was a crunching right hand. It makes me think I don’t know how I could take the punches that came after it with my hands down.

Lewis was vulnerable to big punchers and fast opponents. Look at how a past prime Holyfield competed in their second fight, he gave Lewis trouble.
I believe Lewis beats most ATGs prime vs prime, but he's also likely to loose to guys Holyfield and Ali, and it's 50:50 against guys like Holmes, Bowe, Foreman, the Klitschkos. I see Tyson KOing him.

    What should i say?
Lewis and Bruno both fought Tyson, so it's another thing that make me believe mike had great whiskers.
Again, what do you want me to say? Mercer said several time Tommy morrison hit him the hardest but in the "Mecer: best i faced" article he said the best puncher was Wladimir Klitschko.
I don't know, man. Maybe, McCall said in term of pure power, it's bert cooper, maybe Douglas had more power than Lewis . But the best puncher? in term of accuracy, timing, skills and all that stuff, probably Lewis. Once again, I really really really don't know.
