I don't buy that he "dominated the era" and even less that he "dominated the 1990s".
It's been discussed over and over. The arguments for it are empty.

    :roll::roll:

Yet another self appointed " expert " who believes fights are judged by the Three Blind Mice if they don't give every round against a fighter he has an agenda with. Change the record ffs it's boring, and makes you look an idiot.

The idiot Welsh judge who had Bruno up 4 rounds was judging his first Heavyweight title fight, and didn't ever judge another one, in fact he only judged 3 more title fights period.

The other 2 who had it level were Muricans, and as such wouldn't give a fuk one way or the other which Brit won, now would they?

I have a different take on the Holyfield -Lewis fights. To me Lewis should have won the first fight 9-3. The second fight was closer but l had it 8-4 but if one is generous it could be scored 7-5 Lewis, so that's about 16-8 in favor of Lewis which isn't overly close.

Lewis showed great offensive skill in the Grant, Golota, Botha KO's and the rematch against Rahman but he did look so-so against Holyfiled and Mercer (nothing special) he did not fight any real cuties or movers and never stopped anyone past the 8th rd. I still rate him in my top 5 but he had his flaws like all of the ATG's as far as who he felt hit the hardest, sometimes the hardest punches are the ones you don't see that numb you and stop you so he could be honest. Lewis had good ability for a big man, top 3 with the K bros but IMO he could have lost to many that came before him and possibly a few after

I think Joe Louis is still the most perfect with Ali being the 2nd at beating most others....Marciano would be tough for anyone

All true, minus the 2nd Holyfield fight.

The Bruno fight was one where Lennox landed a " lottery punch " himself retreating and landing a left hook. The TV angle shown looks like his eyes were not even on the target.

For pure hand speed, it could have been Morrison. What's interesting about Lewis is he really did not face many fast handed fighters, or fighters with quick feet.

Well actually he did! Former cruiser weight Ossie Ocasio lost to Lewis on points. 80-77 was the score. Ocasio was somewhat similar to Byrd in height / reach / defense. Byrd of course is a fight Lewis opted out of and dropped a belt to avoid

I'll stand on what I said. Morrison's hook was very quick. As for fast handed / footed fighters, how many did Lewis really face?

Lewis did in fact opt out of fights with Byrd and Ruiz. Its the truth.

A point made in this thread was Lewis top level opposition lacked variety. He didn't face top level super heavy with skills ( Bowe ) a south paw with skills ( Moorer ), A durable puncher with stamina ( Ike ) of a fast handed defensive guy.

I figured chin he might have named Mavrovic or Mercer. I though Tyson would get shout to for strongerst or best chin even though he was KOed I know Lewis at one point was like wtf? how is this guy still here. Jab should have been Bruno.

even though it was Lewis that opted out of Byrd and Ruiz I really think he would of beaten them both. Lately this forum has gained steam that Byrd would of been big trouble for Lewis. I don't agree.

I think Lewis maybe even better than how high you rate him :bbb

Lewis defeated Holfyield twice. He also defeated Mercer, Morrison, McCall, the Golota who whipped Bowe fouls aside, Bruno, Tucker and Ruddock in the 1990's.

Bowe drooped a belt rather than fight Lewis.

If dominated is too strong a word, Lewis clearly has the best resume of wins in the decade. He did beat every man he faced in the 1990's. What more could you ask of him?

He does not have the best resume of wins in the 1990s.
If you include the 2000s there's still an argument between him and Holyfield.

When people have to pull out names like Morrison and Bruno and McCall and the old 1993 Tucker it really shows the weakness of his resume.
    Morrison was especially meaningless.

There's recorded evidence of both Bowe and Tyson dodging him, Foreman said that he never wanted to fight him as he couldn't have beaten him anyway, Holyfield was incredibly inconsistent so the fight couldn't have really happened sooner, and Moorer was a bum post-Foreman. Those are really the only remaining outstanding names in the era.

He did the best he could based on the circumstances he was under.

"He wasn't perfect". I think it was your only decent sentence in your
    life.
-He was glass-chinned (McCall ,Rahman 1)
-He was easy to hit (Bruno, fat out of shape 42 years old Holmes victim
    Mercer,V.klitschko,Briggs fights.)
-He never beat a prime good/decent fighter without lucky
    ciecumstance.
-He had some bizarre fights:Mccall 2,Akinwande,V. Klitschko.
-Sometimes he looked like a boring featherfist(Billups,Ocasio,Dan
    Murphy,Tua,Mavrovic,Holyfield fights.)
    -His holding **** against Tyson.

Yes Lewis wasn't perfect he was a mediocre but very lucky champion.

And Lewis was a big nobody in the 80s in Tyson's prime who's younger
than Lewis ? This Tyson thing doesn't work (P.U.S.S.Y. Spec.)

Lennox actually has some underrated and overrated wins.

For example, most fans include Briggs to the list of his best wins, but forget about Botha who outboxed Briggs clearly and easily won (but was robbed).

Most fans forget about Akinwande and include Grant to Lewis' best wins. IMO, Akinwande was always better boxer than Grant, and I can't see him getting stopped in 1 by McCline and KTFO'd in 7 by an average Guinn. (Of course, the win over Grant was far more impressive, but Akinwande was clearly the better opponent).

A win over Tyson is overrated as that Tyson was completely irrelevant opponent with a 3-round stamina.
