Lewis was always a terrible talker. He always tried to sound cool and he sounded like a pompous fool most of the time.
It requires quick speaking and clear speech. Lewis speaks clearly but he's not a fast talker. I enjoy Mora because's he's a quick thinker and very quick speaker. Any of these guys can do proper analysis, but it's whether they can articulate it well. I'd like to hear Mora give it a go at calling a fight on his own, Cosell style, without having to argue with whatever wrong thing Mannix is saying. SRL was pretty good at it back in the day .
Jerry Quarry was probably one of the best special comments callers I’ve heard. He was intelligent, insightful and easy on the ear.
That is the ultimate burn! Worse than Daniel “Puttin’ on the Ritz” Dubois. The horror. A fly starts buzzing around announcer Daniel’s head and, as far as commentary goes, a well distracted Dubois is gooonne for the night!
When they start making it about them far more than the fighters and the actual action before them - it’s awful. Unfortunately that description covers off on the majority of announcers/commentators and interviewers these days across many subjects of address.
Yeah, he's pretty bad. Worse than Foreman. I remember when he was commentating on Wlad vs Rahman match and was saying that Wlad is doing worse with the worse version of Rahman that he faced, but completely forgot he was sparked TF out by him and no one from the crew even mentioned it, lol.
The commentary didn't help by slightly stirring a comparison between Lennox and Wlad comparing there punching power.
I'd actually like to see Dubois try his hand at doing some commentary work. As terrible an idea as that would be would he really be that much worse than Lewis?
