1 - yes, of course it's a disadvantage. But don't all ATG's have physical advantages? Whether it's reach, speed, CHINS, or whatever, then they have an advantage. That's what MAKES them ATGs. Do you punish Ali in ATG standing because he had the advantage of great speed and reflexes? Of course you don't. but that's a 'god given' physical advantage right there.

2 - Point 2. In P4P rankings I agree wholeheartedly. Which is why in a P4P argument I would without question rate Holy dozens of places higher than Lewis.
But this is a discussion about the heavyweight divsion. And as a heavyweight IMO, Lewis was better. A better fighter, and had a better overall record.

Does Holy deserve kudos for doing what he did? Of course he does, and I'm more than happy to give them. but I feel Holy gets too much praise for being "the little engine that could" vs his actual achievements.

In the heavyweight divsion, everyone is equal. Achievements are what counts.

Lewis is bigger than Holy, so that's an advantage. But he's also got to carry more weight, which places more demands on physical fitness, and means he can't fight at the same pace for as long. That's a disadvantage.

If you want to base your rankings on "who overcame the most disadvantages", then Ruiz has to be #1 ATG in history. He overcame being a talentless, sluggish, no power fighter to become a belt holder and have numerous defences.

The difference being that juicer Holyfield got KO'd by a middleweight. I think that legend was the only heavyweight fat Toney was able to KO.

I agree that Lewis is overrated, not highly overrated. He was a very good fighter, but he's no Holyfield. When people, like boxing experts, sports media and the fans in general mention Holyfields name they always start off with the living Legand Evander Holyfield. You sure never here that about Lewis.

Also, let's get something straight bottomline no ands ifs or buts, about the two Holyfield vs Lewis fights.

#1 Holyfield lost the first fight against Lewis no two ways about it, the draw was just bull**** plain and simple.

#2 The second fight (which I was at) Lewis got a "make good decision" from the judges. I was there, the crowd booed the decision, even the British fans who were there looked surprised. Famous boxing writer and commentator Wally Matthews put it best "Lewis got a make good decision tonight" , " I'm as sure Holyfield won this fight as much as I was sure Lewis won the first", " This fight was much closer, but Holyfield deserved the decision". " There was no way the judges would give Holyfield a close round because of the last fight"

The record books say he lost, but that's b.s., just like the record books say the first fight was a draw.

Lewis was a very good fighter, but in most fans minds today, hell even 10, 20 or more years from now Holyfield will be remembered as one of the greatest fighters ever. Lewis will be forgotten (mostly).

If you know anything about boxing...

You won't think LL is over rated ... He took on everyone who ever openly challenged him , and if he didn't beat them the first time..

He destroyed them the second time around..

    and even that was rare...

Right on the money. There should be no question that Evander Holyfield was a much greater fighter, as your post makes clear!:yep

I have to agree with this statement.

I also will had I that I think LL was the HW Champ of the 90s, but he isn't the ATG that some of the Euro posters make him out to be, simply because he didn't fight a lot of great competition, which isn't his fault.
