I will assume that Lennox Lewis was probably close to Ali, or there was some degree of mutual respect and understanding between them.
He's the only former heavyweight champion to be chosen as a pallbearer and I assume that was Ali's own wish.

Apparently Ali was consulted and designed the funeral arrangements.

And what is the source of that appearance? The fact that they were both great heavyweight champions?

    Good post.

BBC has it that Ali "made many of his own" arrangements. Maybe it was his wife, but so what? His wife is better equipped than anyone on this forum to decide these matters.

Ali is chossing to be buried by warriors and disciples. There's nothing wrong with that. Warriors used to insist upon it in ancient times also.

Well Max Schmeling was a pallbearer for Joe Louis. So older guys can do the carrying. Holmes is in good shape, I think he could do it also. But it up to the family.

No the fact he's a pallbearer means they likely had a much closer relationship than you realize. That's my point.

Could it be because he's the greatest heavyweight alive who didn't conduct himself like a piece of sh it outside the ring?

That doesn't mean squat.... My brother in law and I were both pallbearers at my father in law's funeral and neither of us even liked the man nor he us.. Lewis and some of the others who were selected to carry Ali's casket were likely done so to ad flare to the event and not because there weren't other people in this great big world who were closer to him.. The decision was made by his family.. Fine.. I respect that.. But let's not pretend that because those men were chosen that they were life long buds of the greatest.

That's a very plausible answer. I've also seen a couple of pictures of them together, so it's not like they were mere acquaintances.

You read a crock of ****

It was the opposite. He became more compassionate, and had more friends.

Add flare to the event? Do you have a ****ing nail in your head? Ali doesnt need flare.

You think Ali and his family selected Lewis because of star power? When Barack Obama might be there?

Some of you have this disease like contrarian perspective that makes you question the color of the sky.

Now it's Alis families capability of understanding who meant the most in his life, and assigning roles at his funeral?

Apparently Ali had a big input into how his funeral would be conducted ,given that and his family being there, I can't see what all this grousing is about?

I must say you have surprised me a bit here Mr M:huh

And you know there wasn't? I think you are making assumptions and presumptions that far exceed what is actually your personal business.

And you feel comfortable making a judgement about another human being and his family in the most distressing of circumstances? I really don't get where you are coming from here, to be honest I think you are way out of line!

    Yep

I also read that it's going to be live streamed.

I have mixed feelings about going. On one hand I don't want to see a spectacle made out of Ali's funeral. At the same time, he meant to much to me indirectly, and its a chance for everyone to pay their respects to a man who touched all their lives.

I'm afraid of seeing people like Tyson, Holmes, Foreman, and Lewis, because I might force them to watch HD Joe Louis footage on my phone just to hear what they say.
