He didn't want to go out on a loss.

As a man and a champion Lewis should have given Vitali the rematch, it's only fair considering Lewis was KO'd twice by mediocre fighters, only to get rematches with both men, Mccall was severely shot and mentally ill by that time though.

Lewis was highly overrated, you stick Vitali in with anyone Lewis fought and Vitali would beat them all easily.

Lewis didn't want to risk a rematch, nothing more nothing less. Let's not forget this is the same Lewis who feasted on shot/faded fighters such as Holy and Tyson. You get offered that sort of money for a rematch and if you fight for pride you take the rematch.

I won't even speculate on who would have won becasue it takes the argument off in other directions.

There should have been a rematch to a fight that unfolded the way that Vitali v Lewis did. Lewis backed down.

Lewis didn't owe Vitali a damn thing. Vitali owed it to himself to win when he had the opportunity to do so. Vitali had Lewis hurt in the second round and failed to capitalize on it and so he has only himself to blame. End of story.

Lewis is in the same boat as Calzaghe when it comes to rematches. The zero pride boat. If you have closely contested fights, you give rematches.

Ask The Baller who continously makes threads about it. Or the people who endlessly flaunt pictures of Vitali's face like they have personal bragging rights.

Oh no, its just them awful Klistchko fans.

Because there aren't any rocket scientist on this tread, particularly in the Klitshcko camp. And many klitschko fans either can't seem to grasp the obvious or really haven't watched a lot of boxing, because you're right, this wasn't even close to a contriversial fight.

Hell, in my mind the draw decision between Lewis and Holyfield in their first fight was way more contriversial then this fight was.

Than why is it THE BALLER...so obviously not a Vitali fan starting multiple threads about it 6 or so years later. I say its more than Klitschko fans who need to get the ****** of their back.

Brother, you need to come to terms with your Klistchko addiction.

Let that bull**** go, and fill your heart with the love of Sugar Valuev and Sir Bert Cooper.

Well there's no arguing with the fact it takes two to tango and this basically applies to anyone participating on these threads. Cerrtainly we're collectively putting in far more time and effort on what happened during the fight and was should have happened afterwards, then either Lewis or Klitschko.

But as someone stated, this wasn't all that contriversial as far as fights go. I've been watching boxing for close to 40 years and this was no where near as contriversial as many, many fights I've seen. Most of the contriversial fights though relate to bad decisions, hardly anyone makes a big deal about a cut stoppage because most know that this ocassionally happens.

Certainly the cut stoppages in favor of Ali never generated this much attention, and there's clearly an agenda by Klitschko fans to try and rewrite history as they would like to see it, rather than what actually happened.

As mentioned previously, I'm not a huge fan of the first holyfield - Lewis draw decision and I don't know of ANYONE who honestly felt that this was a just decision, but no one's making a big deal out of it 8-10 years after it happened the way Klitshcko fans are about the Lewis - V.K. fight. Can't really understand the purpose, as it's not as if the outcome of the fight is suddenly going to change, or that V.K. is going to get a rematch, whether he deserved it or not.

That said, I'm not a huge fan of Lewis when it comes to his comments on this fight. He was clearly past his prime and in shape or not, his timely was clearly off and his footwork abysmal. He clearly struggled to win this fight, and was in someways lucky to do so.

That being the case he should have given props to V.K. for being a tough warrior and he should have simply stated his skills have diminished and the outcome of rematch with Vitali would be in doubt and a rematch simply isn't worth the risk on the old risk/reward analysis everyone uses to determine these type of things.

And even though Klitschko is likely telling the truth about Lewis' mum playing a huge part in not having a rematch, I certainly would never expect a heavyweight boxing champ to say as much in this particular circumstance.

I said " 39-ish" Not 39 exactly. And at the rate rematches are made these days, I'm guessing that it probably would have been anywhere from 6 months to a full year before the second fight came off, and that would put Lewis within that range.. In any case, he was past his prime..

Yes. That must be it. Lennox Lewis who had been boxing for 30 years and taken on the best that he could, who had won a gold medal at the Olympics, and who took immediate rematches with men who knocked him out was scared of a guy who's face he had just sliced up like a pizza.:rofl:patsch
