Lennox Lewis states why he didn't give Vlitali Klitschko a rematch.

You're either winding people up or you genuinely haven't watched much boxing.

 

Have some sympathy - from his avatar Bremen has a few physical drawbacks. One ****ed up eye, a rack of shitty teeth and regular spasms where he admittedly "goes ape".

On the plus side that got him automatic member status as a Klitard and now he has a meaning to life instead of endlessly banging his head against steel bars.

 

Assuming it even was a foul you're correct..happens all the time. Hell if they disqualified Holyfield everytime he threw a headbutt, he'd have a hell of a lot of losses. Same thing applies to Ali, who use to constantly push the head of his opponent down repeatedly. And Tyson was not above throwing the occasional elbow, and you don't even want to get started on Duran, and on and on it goes. Boxing's not for wimps.

 

Makes perfect sense. If you are losing your passion for the game and whip a guy? Why would you rematch him? Is that going to give you your passion back?

All you would be doing is stepping in there a shell of your former self losing to guys who you have no business losing to. We can believe that Lewis' passion was completely gone by the fact that he has stopped Boxing and stayed away from the ring.

With his size he had to have a ton of nagging injuries.

 

He was getting his ass whoop but he was lucky that vitali had that nasty cut. There should have been a rematch.

 

If they were both 25 I don't think you'd have much of an argument but Lewis was at the twilight of his career and in fact he retired. Give the guy a break, it's not like he went on to fight other fighters and he purposely avoided V.K.

Btw, I'm not sure how many posters on this thread are as old as Lewis, me, I'm a couple of years older, but trust me, when I tell you that when you get into your late 30's early 40's thing come a lot harder than they did when you were in your 20's, or even early 30's, not all things, but certainly your reflects aren't the same.

...............this would be good sound logic had lennox not colapsed on his stool after 6 rounds.....he was done and had a worse beat down coming at him..!

 

It was a war and both men expended energy.....Vitali had gotten stunned in that final round before the stoppage, but he had gotten stunned previosly and fought right back.....

.....as you said, Lewis looked finished as he flopped to his stool in that round, and what convinces me that Vitali was going to knockout Lewis and likely in the very round coming up, was that throughout that seesaw battle, Vitali surge would last 2 minutes and Lewis' would last less than a minute.

When Lewis exherted real and aggressive energy, he was gassed at about 30 seconds and he would'nt catch a wind for another 30 second surge until the next round.

Lewis was having trouble catching his wind after a surge, while Vitali's wind would come rather quickly after his longer surges of energy.

The longer the fight went, the more it would have effected Lewis

Vitali sensed this, and he begged the ref to give him just one more round, but was declined.

With Vitali begging for one more round, Lewis was the happiest man in the world when the fight was stopped.:deal

 

Yeah, that's the problem with the refs. They assume that injuries happen from legal punches because "they are part of the sport" mentality as you put it. But the truth is that they are not. Instead, refs should assume that the injury was intentional/accidental and look for evidence that it was cause by a legal punch. Boxing should include instant replay so in case of an injury the cause can be reviewed. Someone wants to fight dirty - fine, but they should not be able to get away with a win if the opponent gets injured.

 

VITLAYS multiple injuries were caused by hard punches to the face, it's a shame instant replays weren't available cos it would have stopped the whining and bitching instantly instead of Klit-ites still claiming this crap 8 years after the fact patsch

Unless you can identify even ONE FIGHT in which Lewis collapsed on his stool and couldn't continue this is a moot point. Just watch the last round and see who was hanging on to who during that round.

 

So after fighting well over 100 amateur and professional fights and never once quiting because of exhaustion, it's all of a sudden going to happen in his last fight after a round he not only won, but had Vitali drapped all over him during parts of the round.

Ya that makes sense..

You klitschko fans keep grasping at straws..more likely would have been that Vitali would have suffered permanent damage to his eye and had the fight continued it could very well have been is last fight. Obviously that was the doctors assessment of the situation as well.
