How would Lewis even draw $100,000,000, anyway? DLH in his pomp was a bigger draw than Lewis ever was, and somehow we're expecting a shot, 5-year retired Lewis to DOUBLE the highest purse ever made by a fighter? Not to mention, Vitali isn't exactly a massive draw here in the States, where most of the money is. Especially now that he's old and has been inactive for so long.
He's pulling people's chains, nothing more. It happens about once a year, and you could virtually set your clock by it. Lewis can't fight anymore but this way he gets to stir up a little hoopla still.
I'm hearing you mate. Thing is, if he hasn't enough money by now to live like a King the rest of his life he needs rooting. Unlike Tyson and co i don't think he's squandered it. I'll come out and say it would not surprise me one bit if he comes back. I think there's a chance he's testing the water to see just how much money will be put forth with his massive demands. Perhaps he will meet near the middle of 100mill and 40mill.
Well if he is, Lewis' fans should not tell Vitlai or any boxer they are not being fair by asking Lewis for a boxing match. 40M is a huge sum of money, maybe the most offered I can recall.
Lewis will not come back. He is wealthy and as he said himself: "Money doesn't motivate me anymore. Vitali needs to make a legacy for himself from those who are available.". And he's doing just that. I understand he still has nightmares of having, what he sees as his fight, taken away from him. But he has to let Lewis go and give it a rest; it's becoming bothersome. It was nice to see them momentarily "spar" earlier this year before Wlad-Ibragimov, though. Old school ring introductions of retired champions is a great tradition that should be upheld.
Lewis ain't coming back guys. Money Lennox doesn't need the money. According to the Times Rich List 2008 Lewis is worth £100m. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/specials/rich_list/article3797096.ece Running out of money is probably the main factor why retired boxers come back. I seriously doubt that Evander Holyfield would be getting back in the ring if he still had £100m (approx $150M) in the bank. Legacy Another main reason for a fighter to come back is because he feels that his legacy is incomplete, or that he still has something to prove. Again, Lewis beat every man he ever faced and went out on a win. What's left to prove? He can't improve on his legacy short of fighting a prime Tyson or Holyfield which is impossible of course. Lifestyle Lewis has been away from the sport in an active way for 5 years. At 43, would he really have the motivation to get up at 5am and do roadwork, watch his diet, weight train, do 2-3 hours of sparring and early to bed at night? I doubt it myself. The big man's too busy eating jerk chicken and smoking ganja, doing all the things he wasn't allowed to when he was active. Conclusion There's just no reason for Lewis to come back IMO, no matter what size of paycheck is dangled in front of him.
And Lewis won't comeback because he's good with his money. He doesn't go on spending sprees because he's a millionaire. From what I've heard, Lewis is meant to be tight with his cash.
Dnt be ridiculous Lewis is'nt coming back. He is just mind****ing Vitali and having a bit of fun with all the people hoping that he will come back.
As unlikely as it is, could imagine the state of the division of Lewis came back and managed to win?? My god, it would almost destroy the division..what would fans think if someone 43 years old could come back an conquor the division without a warm up fight. Hell, even Foreman never did that. It would either show how incredible Lewis truely was, or more likely how pathetic the division really has become. I just can't see this being good for boxing..whether Lewis wins or looses.
I dont think he will come back. I hope he dosn't come back. I hope he stays retired with his brain intact and enjoys his money.
Just because he doesn't need the money doesn't mean he won't be lured by it putting it into context he would be worth 150million pounds after the fight in other words a fifty percent increase in his wealth for one fight, money is not everything when considering what he will do but to put it into context if you were to have at the end of your life assets of even 5million pounds you would have been seen to have done very well in life, we are really talking a huge amount of cash with Lewis. To be real though in this time of financial crisis I can't see lewis getting this sort of money, or maybe he has had money tied up in shares and maybe not worth that 100million pounds anymore which could be why he is testing the water, does anyone know how Lewis's money is invested?
Lewis just doesn't strike me as the sort of personality who is especially motivated by money, beyond the basic fact that almost everyone likes making money. If he was 1-2 years retired then I could see him being tempted back to the ring but 5 years is a lifetime in the life of a professional athlete. You can be sure that a good chunk of Lewis's assets are tied up in one way or another, in other words they are not liquid. However, I doubt he's short of a bob or two if he needs to nip down to his local dealer to buy his share of weed. Basically, I think Lewis is done with boxing in an active way and I'd be amazed if he came back now.
Lets just say Lewis has a substantial amount of the money he has earned in shares and companies, a wise investment a year or so ago, he may be thinking OH ****, most investment advisers would have given him advice to invest along these lines.
How much did Holyfield and Lennox get for their first fight? 20 something million a piece I'm imagining...
