There weren't too many waiting for him at the airport when he'd just won the world title.
No doubt he's top ten of all time from the uk with a good shout at top 3

I think it's something to do with twice representing Canada in Olympic games, culminating in a gold medal.
Personally I don't put any stock in 'nationality' at all, but it is an interesting question for people who do :
How many times can a Brit represent another country in the Olympic games without forfeiting his Britishness ?

As far as I can tell, there's no sporting event on earth bigger, as global, or based more on all this patriotism stuff, than the Olympic games.
(rivalled only by the football world cup.)

there was folk waiting at the airport and a piper band salute. An open top car was also hired to drive down the main streets of edinburgh.were fans lined the streets and another pipe band followed. Id say thats a fairly decent welcome home!

So Mo Farrah isn`t British then?

What if you were born in Germany when one or both of your British parents were stationed there in the army? By your stupid logic you would be German.............

I'd say it was the least he deserved.I'm still at a loss as to how when he was the undisputed king of the lightweights, Princess Anne won sports personality of the year.
In the uk we hadn't had an undisputed world champion since randy turpin in 1951 I don't think.
He wasn't that well known when he won the title because of his manager, Eddie Thomas staging Buchanans fights in the small halls

lewis was born in newham , and his parents took him to canada when he was 12
at 24 he represented the uk country of his birth and did so for his whole proffesional career.
i like many others on the board was born overseas and my parents moved me to england when i was 3 .
i have lived here since, i would ,if i was good enough at sport have represented england /uk, but many on here it would seem think i would not have been british enough.

Moved to Canada aged 9, learned to fight in Canada and represented them in the Olympics. He only started to embrace his British birth place when he became a pro to increase his fanbase. Lewis even admitted it himself this year “When I turned pro, I had to go to the United Kingdom in order to pursue my career. The infrastructure to develop boxers wasn’t in Canada then."

he was basically a Canadian at heart and a Briton for convenience.

He's just like Greg rusedski, your accent is one of the main things in your nationality IMO... It tells u where someone has been most of their life, there's no trace of any English accent in lewis
