Amateur boxing don't mean ****. Henry Tillman beat Tyson twice in the Amateurs and Tyson knocked Tillman out in the first round in the pros. Amateur boxing is totally different.
It might not mean **** to you, and I know it's not the same as professional boxing, where a different skill set is required, but it certainly means **** when you're in your teens and early 20's. We obviously know you're not a boxer.. And I don't think it's a coincidence that Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Lewis, and Wlad have all won gold metals.
Ha ha ha ha ha. Nonsense post with an obvious agenda! Even your first sentence is nonsense. 'Undeniable'? He KO'd Ruddock in 2 rounds in england!!! Prime Ruddock too!
And you won how many metals in boxing again? refresh my memory. because you're response is lame beyond description. The way I look at the amateurs is like going to school. Some get out of high school and go straight to work. In boxing terms these are professionals with no amateur experience. Others go on to get a post secondary education, prior to going to work. These are the fighters that fight in the olympics prior to becoming professionals. And how anyone can turn a great amateur career into a negative is beyond me.
I promised to myself not to respond this thread this beeing so negative and bias in the first place but.. Firstly Lewis was very young when he went to his first olympics. Secondly he fought more hard fights than Bowe or Holyfield and can take comparison to Tyson. If we want to blame someone we should blame all of them for not fighting eachother. Boxing is sometimes refered as an unintelligent sport... I can't blame them when I see such a stupid posts like these. Where is your sense of proportion and why patronize so much?
Ali was 18 when he won gold, without headgear and with small gloves. Holyfield fought and beat Riddick Bowe, 7 year younger version of Tyson than the one Lewis fought, Buster Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Moorer, Mercer, Ruiz, Rahman etc.
You really have some amazingly lame ass responses. Remind me how old Tyson, Holyfield or Bowe were when they won gold metals? Oh that's right, none of them did. And maybe that lack of discipline and dedication may have played a role in the careers of at least two of these three fights, don't ya think?
There was an elimination Bowe v Holyfield, Lewis v Ruddock,It was agreed the winners fight each other which were Bowe and Lewis. What did Bowe do rather than fight Lewis? Everyone knows.
Tyson didn't duck him, he offered Lewis a generous $13,500,000 purse to fight in '96, a massive $5,500,000 more than the $8,000,000 offered to Holyfield. However, Lewis refused to accept Don King's options, the same contract options that every other Tyson opponent had to accept (while King was his manager). So ultimately there was no ducking, just another Great fight ruined by King's greed.
