You do realize that Lewis turned down a 13.5 million guarantee to fight Tyson, right? That's a little known fact that people don't like to talk about. It was only after that, that Tyson offered and Lewis ACCEPTED 4 mil in step aside money so that Tyson could fight a unification fight.

That is nobodies fault but Lewis'. He knew damn well that after Seldon, Tyson was going to fight Holyfield. That was the fight that everyone wanted to see. Tyson has much more attractive offers than Lennox yet still was willing to fight against him. It was Lewis who turned down that fight. If Lennox really wanted that fight, he would have taken it. Then we would have been able to see what he was made of. Had Lewis actually took the fight, we all know that if he had won, he would have had control over the division right there. Everything would have went through him. He could have made a ton in the rematch... he could have then fought Holy instead of Tyson/Holy... would have been much easier to come to terms with Bowe, ect...

Lennox Lewis himself is to blame for sitting behind the scenes during the 90's.

Urban legend. You dont stand their and take the bombs he took from Vitali with a glass chin. The punches that knocked Lewis out would have ko'd any animal let alone any man.

If you want to start questioning resumes and timing as some have in this laughable thread then start with Tyson who was spoon fed about 30 dead fish to start his career or Larry Holmes who walked in to the end of the golden era of hevs and fought a bunch of over the hill warn out warriors.

Also, the Lewis of the late 90's/early 00's would eat both the Klit brothers for breakfast.

If I do? It's actually common knowledge to people like myself who were following the sport at the time. Am I supposed to find you proof for everything that you don't know... just because I have more boxing knowledge than yourself? Why would I bother to keep doing that? If I can provide you proof... then you will agree that it was Lewis' fault that fight didn't happen sooner?

If only he could have eaten Rahman and McCall so easily during the late 90's early 00's.

:deal This..... but you missed that he was also getting pasted by Bruno until he pulled a lucky punch out of his ass and Briggs had him all over the place.

It's also 'common knowledge' that Don King paid money to the WBC for Tyson not to fight Lewis.

By that logic, every fighter Lewis fought that was better than those 2 should have beaten him. But as we all know, they didn't. That is a flawed logic, and quite pathetic for someone who claims to have 'boxing knowledge'.

BOXING;Bronchitis Stops Tyson: Seldon Fight Is Off

    Published: July 04, 1996

The World Boxing Council wants Tyson to defend against Lennox Lewis of England, a former champion and now its No. 1 contender. Lewis turned down a $13.5 million guarantee to fight Tyson. Lewis then accepted $4 million from King to step aside and allow Tyson to fight Seldon, with the proviso that Tyson, assuming he beat Seldon, would fight Lewis next. Tyson is expected to receive $30 million for fighting Seldon.

I never said that I felt either of those two were better than Lewis. Just as Brewster and Sanders clearly aren't better than Wladimir Klitschko. Just pointing out the stupidity of the post I was replying to.

Uhhh.... yeah. I wouldn't say that he ducked Sanders. It isn't as if the fans were begging for that fight. Sanders and Lewis became friends late in Sanders career, and Sanders during an interview stated himself that Lewis personally told him that he avoided a fight with Sanders when it was brought to the table. Lewis himself said this during the buildup of Vitali vs Sanders. I wouldn't call it a duck...but he definitely avoided that possible matchup.

However, unless you just started following boxing you would know that Lewis vacated his IBF title to avoid a fight with Byrd. Lewis didn't fight for a year afterward.... so it isn't as if he had bigger fights to take care of. It was also known for a LONG time that the world wanted to see Lewis vs Wlad. It was the topic of just about every heavyweight broadcast during that span. Wlad was his #1 contender by Ring mag for over 2 years. Hell... it was so well known that the fighters were put against each other in the movie Oceans' Eleven.
