This is a downright lie, I have followed boxing the last 30 years and I have never heard that story before, actually Lewis and Steward were hunting Tyson ever since he got out of prison. But Tyson, King and Sulaiman from WBC were having a different agenda. I am disappointed in you widdow, we have never agreed much, but this is the first time I have seen you actually lying to prove a point.
Lennox Lewis turned down a career payday to fight Tyson, this was post Prison Tyson as well, instead of fighting amateur boxing he should have tried to become champ in the 80's and fought Tyson in the 80's. He ducked vitali rematch, he ducked Wlad the list goes on and on, he turned down a winner takes all fight against BOWE because he wanted more money and wanted a guaranteed purse, because he's a little *****.
I figured that would be the type of response that I would get. :yep I state something that I know to be the truth. You immediately don't believe it because it goes against everything that you thought you knew about the situation.... you demand proof... I give you proof... you toss it aside as if it is a non-issue.atsch ahhh... pointless I am moving on.
Wow, you are really late with this post. I already posted an article from 1996 proving it. I guess you weren't following boxing quite as much as you thought you were. http://www.nytimes.com/1996/07/04/s...s-tyson-seldon-fight-is-off.html?pagewanted=2 I guess you can apologize now.
What? Tyson paid money to not fight Lewis, just like I said. Lewis turned down an offer to fight Tyson. It does work both ways. You said Lewis ducked Tyson, I said Tyson ducked Lewis. Lewis was offered a fight but turned it down, Tyson paid money so that he did not have to fight Lewis. If you can't see that it works both ways then you are mad. But to an extent, what you quoted sort of proved my point. To be fair, I think we could have a better debate and I would certainly treat you with more respect had you not suggested that Lewis ducked Byrd and Sanders. What next? 'Lewis ducked John Ruiz!' :rofl
Lewis got hated on during the 90's. Now it is Klit's turn. The only thing that is a problem with the bro's is that they will not fight the best in the division - each other. But hey, boxing fans never learn. I'm pretty sure Ali was a glass jawed fraud at one point.
How's it stupidity?... almost everybody with even an ounce of boxing knowledge concedes this. Hell, he TKO'd a prime Vitali when he was clearly past his best (say whatever you want, a win is a win no matter how close it was leading up the stoppage). And he would take out Wlad just like he took out Golota and Grant. Stop being a contrarian.
Apologize for what? I have never heard about this before, the thruth is Tyson was the one running, all the way to 2002 when he couldnt afford to say no to Lewis no more. I dont know what picture you are trying to paint here, Lewis was fighting and beating every good heavyweight around his time. He tore half of Vitalis face off, then decided it was time to retire at 39. Very reasonable. He didnt fight Wlad, course Wlad kept getting beat up by mere opponents like sanders and then Brewster. Case closed.
IMO Lewis' mistake was accepting the WBC title after Bowe gave it up. By accepting the WBC belt, he was forced to face fighters mandated by the WBC. He shouldn't have been fighting Tucker or Jackson or McCall anymore than Bowe should have been fighting Dokes or Ferguson. By staying the (ducked) No. 1 contender, he could have fought who he wanted, when he wanted.
Lewis was the WBC number one contender, had just one defeat and was having an excellent run. Seldon was a poor champion and a pushover.
Lewis was offered a career high payday to fight for Tyson's WBC belt? Lennox refused, so Tyson set his sights on Seldon, he paid Lewis 4 million to step aside so Tyson could get the WBA belt immediately. Lennox Lewis did not have to accept step aside money he could easily have said,"No" and fought Tyson for the WBC belt and a career payday.:huh
They could have fought Lewis instead of paying him step aside money. If he really did not want the fight, why would he turn it down for free, then accept money not to have it? If he turns down a lucrative offer, why would King bother giving him money to step aside if he had made it clear he didn't want to fight? If Lewis did not accept the money, Tyson would be required to fight him, instead of fighting for a paper title against Seldon. They gave him a substantial amount with the promise of a later fight.
