Read somewhere....think it was Hauser who wrote it that the night before this fight Golota had a dream where Lewis nearly killed him in the Ring and he was so shook that he showed up late and had to practicially be forced out of the dressing room to fight. Golota was ****ed in the head. Lewis did the perfect thing to do vs a guy with that mental weakness.
That's because Purrity had a chin of absolute iron. No chance Lewis could have stopped him either, unless it was on a cut. Lewis didn't even manage to stop Levi Billups in 10 rounds, good puncher but never knocked out anyone with particularily good punch resistance.
Garbage, Grant was down twice in the first round against Golota ( the first and only good opponent he faced before Lewis) Ruddock was down multiple times against Tyson (no real surprise there) and showed through the rest of his career like Grant he was awful at taking a punch Not sure on Botha, he had an ok chin but was still ko'd plenty of times, he was flattened by a Tyson right before the Lewis fight so again nothing incredibly about ko'ing him whatsoever.
it was very big shock, hardly understable but I guess its no shame in loosing against ATG in prime as much dedicated and focused and in shape as I never seen Lewis before or later much more shameful is loosing against jorneyman golfer
Good post, but I think big punchers got into Golotas mind and like you said, when he got thinking too much he would tend to fade. I think he did far better than expected vs Byrd and Ruiz and even Grant(hindsights 20/20). But I couldnt give him a win over Byrd or Ruiz. He just didnt throw enough punches in those fights.
Seriously, why cant Wlad do that to every opponent he faces? Wlad doesnt even fight guys as good as prime Golota, Its mostly the Mormecks, Chambers and slow Tony Thompsons.
