Yeah but you gotta remember Holyfield was in his heavyweight prime when he fought Douglas and so still had the reflexes an timing that eroded by the time he fought Lewis when he was 36 or 37. Still had a great chin though
Excellent observation. Against Mike Williams, I seem to recall Douglas throwing at least one uppercut, if not several, that was well off the mark - but Williams didn’t make him pay for it. Though it wasn’t always on point, Douglas did appear to favour the uppercut somewhat - but it’s not really a choice punch against a taller opponent. Good chance Holyfield did his pre fight homework, well ready to counter the uppercut.
I don't like uppercuts. It encourages your opponent to bend over at the waist, and that is illegal. Uppercuts too should be illegal.
Bowe's uppercut was even better and... hurt Holyfield way more than Lewis' one. Too bad Bowe didn't have neither the desire to work on his flaws (defense) nor dedication that Lennox had.
Underrated uppercut. Being a student of Steward he's often thought of as being a 1-2 machine but this punch was another clear and present danger in his tool belt.
