Unbelievably 30 years ago. Where do you rate this in Lewis s career? I still think this was one of Lennox s best performance. I know Morrison was no great fighter, and he was far off prime, but Lewis looks so good in this fight. He was on his way to his second part of his career after losing to McCall. He showed against a still dangerous guy just how good he could be.
I rank this as a solid win. Morrison was so faded at this point. Lewis looked excellent. This win is below Tua, Mercer, Ruddock, Holyfield 2 and a few others for me. Maybe a top 15 or possibly a top 10 win for Lewis.
Morrison already looked stiffer by that point, he could’ve potentially already had the implants at that point as well by the looks of it. That said, Morrison was more cautious, he was more experienced but had deteriorated a lot physically for a few reasons, but prime Morrison may have lost sooner, since he’d’ve potentially started fast and gone for the knockout. Morrison from the Foreman fight may have lasted longer, since he was in his prime physically and also had some experience, but he probably still gets stopped.
Its crazy that Tommy was only 26. He was boyish looking just a few years prior. Pretty good win for Lewis, it doesn't get talked about much because of the quality of depth on his resume.
He looked prime to me. Tommy just couldn’t match with Lewis. Maybe there was a strategy that could have worked better. But this was Lewis reaching his full potential he was an awesome force. I think the best ever. Morrison just wasn’t on that level.
Morrison, on his best day, wouldn't rank with Lewis' afternoon fart. A perfunctory performance by Lewis against a Tommy who was as good as he ever was. Levels on display.
I remember when that fight happened. Lennox abused Morrison, and you could see him grinning at times. I think this was because Tommy stupidly blew an 8-million-dollar payday taking the Bennt fight. So they were fighting for less money then they originally would have and Lennox was really pissed about that.
I might be wrong but I think this was the last Lennox fight I watched over again and it had an HBO pre-fight banging on about how Lewis was very one-dimensional and showed Duke with his pet monkeys and exotic big cats and after seeing him chilling with a ****** in a dress and a cheetah, or something like that, you see Tommy doing his interview going "Right now, just living a normal life is what's right for me." It was the best day. The truth is, Lennox was a boss and Tony Morrinton's prime didn't really exist, as no one could take a photo of it live in the bloodstream of the universe.
The best seat I ever had for a big fight---6th row. It was obvious when they got in the ring that Tommy was in for a lot of trouble. Lennox looked twice the size of him live. But the crowd was like 90% Morrison and 5% nuetral. After the first round, the crowd sure sensed that Tommy was way out of his element and was not going to beat the guy.
