Lennox Lewis v Muhammad Ali

It would be Ali's hardest fight that wasn't FOTC (well, the Holmes counts too I guess). 60s Ali wins a tough but impressive UD, 70s Ali stops him in 12 after taking some terrifying shots.

 

Lennox tended to lose focus some times. You can miss an assignment in other sports and just go on to the next play. In boxing you have to protect yourself at all times.

 

My take ( for what it's worth )
The fighter of 66/67 would have the beating of all the HW in history.
Later in his career from 71/75 he could have lost to a few, Louis, Holmes, and yes Lewis.
I have him as my No 1 and will continue to do so, in the face of reasoned argument.

I don't judge his two KO losses as harshly as others . He just fell asleep, kind of like Michael Moorer against Big George.

 

I’d pick Ali. Lewis has the tools but he’d also need to be mentally tough and I think Ali could get in his head and make him second guess himself. I reckon Ali wins on points and uses every trick he has to do it.

 

Shorter, slower Ray Mercer outjabbed Lennox. I believe prime Muhammad would do the same.

 

I wonder what Lennox thinks. Like a lot of other greats Ali is one of his idols.

 

Yes he said that, peak Ali to boot. I debated him on it, may have been as much as 15 years ago.
