Lennox Lewis v Sonny Liston - Who Wins?

I think the Foreman that took out Frazier would beat Lewis. Do you?

 

It's hard to say, Lewis is totally different to Frazier, I give George a very good chance of beating lewis, but it depends, if lewis boxes i think he can win too.

50/50 fight perhaps

Didn't Lennox fight a guy called Ray Mercer a similar size and what was the result ? Oh Yeah I remember, a razor thin & debateable majority points decision.
Wasn't there this other white guy Mavrovic, he was a similar size & weight, he was surely beaten in stunning fashion, Oh wait ! he actually went the distance and soaked up anything Lewis could throw.
Then there was that smaller old past it former cruiser/heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield didn't he get take a pounding from Lewis, Oh hang on wasn't that a draw and the rematch a close decision.

All these guys were not far off Liston's size and were not steamrolled, and Mercer & Mavrovic are not in Liston's League.

Liston's jab is recognised as one of the best of all-time, and the slow, straight up Bruno was easily able to outjab Lewis. (until he realised he might actually win the World Heavyweight Title & all was lost).

 

I edge towards Foreman. I think Lewis is as good as you can get without having that extra special something that the ATG fighters had, but like I said, I consider him awful ****ing good and I wouldn't argue with anyone who ranks him a little higher than I do. Lewis was very hard to beat if you couldn't get to him offensively, and he was tough to get to with his size and reach.

 

You can never say Lewis all day, not after Rahman (and Mc Call).


Liston, a much better champion than either of these guys, could easily stop Lewis inside the first.



However, both guys prime, bringing their best game, Lewis takes it.

Most likely by stoppage.

 

Lewis would break him down and stop him, in my opinion.

And Lewis boxed the **** out of Holyfield.

 

Lewis keeps the plodding Sonny away from him in the first 4 rounds with quick jabs mixed with some stiff ones. In the fith he starts letting a few straight rights go which starts bothering Liston - carries on in the sixth. By the seventh, Liston realises he's being systematically worn down and being ready to be taken out so takes risks jumping in with shots. Im 85% sure Lewis catches him with a left hook coming in, seriously wobbling him and finishes him with a straight right when Liston is counted out.

The other 15% is that he gets a lucky shot and catches Lewis flush and puts him to sleep.

 

I like this scenario.
