You don't feel Lewis dodged a rematch then?

I always thought one more round would be really interesting. Vitali's left eye was in very bad shape so the doctor made the right choice, but you look at Lewis at the end of 6th round, he dropped to his chair as he havent sleep for a week straight!

Doctor made the right decision just like Eddie Futch did in not allowing Frazier out for the final round in Thrilla in Manila.
Klitschko got to fight another day and Lewis like Hagler realised once you lose the hunger for the sport its no use risking
your health and reputation if you are no longer willing to put yourself through a training camp without 100 % commitment. Being financially secure like Hagler he retired.

If we'd had a referee from ancient Rome, we'd have had a 7th for sure! ;)

Excellent post, sums it up well. Lewis was done prime wise and rather than take a Larry Holmes type tail off he simply retired. As far as retirements go it's perfection. He would have been struggling to get up for a rematch that's for sure.

Lennox slowed as he got bigger and heavier and found motivation harder. It makes the win against such a quality fighter, even more credible. Lewis won and that's that.Another round would be unthinkable due to his opponents injury. These guys have a life after boxing.
Lennox walked away on his terms after a win, which very few do.
Why should he take a rematch for a fight he won ? He has my respect.
