Wrong again, he identifies as Canadian FIRST. He represented us instead of you guys in the Olympics . A lot of Brits don't really accept him as British because the man has always been in Canada, even to this day! When was the last time he was there? When he was training David Price lol? He's here and in Miami for most of the year.
S But he says he is British in his own words you ******.Has he ever said publicly he is a CANADIAN ?? No,because Einstien he aint. You can have him when Joshua becomes undisputed, but for the moment he a Brit,LOL.
The man said he identifies as Canadian first, not British. He only went thee for the money cuz boxing in Canada is dead. Too bad. He represented us in the Olympics. Canadian first then UK
Canada has free healthcare, which the US doesn't. If a "useless, shitty" country like Canada can has something that the US does, what does that make the US?
He had no choice but to represent Canada because he was residing in Canada for that period. His Friends,Coaches,Trainers were all Canadian so it would've been wierd not to box for them. But their are plenty of Mexican Boxers who Fought for the US,does that make them American ??? Plenty of Cuban Boxers who boxed for US,does that make them American ??? NO,Lewis had the choice between Canada or Britain in the 90's and he chose Britain as he always was and will be a Brit.
I was talking in a Sporting sense, all love for Canada bro, brillaint country.Everyone's favourite Second Country,no one has a problem with Canada it's a blessed country
He absolutely had a choice, he easily could have went back to the UK and represented them. And even to this day, he remains in Canada/US and stays active in the Canadian scene to try and better the scene. He said himself that the only reason he went back to the UK was because boxing was completely dead in the water in Canada and there was no future for him there. Very understandable. He's worth 100m + atm, do you think he's even worth 10m+ if he debuted in Canada. No way. There was no infrastructure to support boxing in Canada and that's well documented. Even to this day , the scene in Canada is terrible. UK was a place for him to make money. Canada is his home. There's a difference.
Sad isnt it when a supposedly Proud Canadian latches on to Britains best ever Champion & tries to claim him as Canadian. You can understand it I guess it cannot be much fun with no real homegrown heroes Lennox is without doubt the best HW champ since The Greatest Muhammad Ali
It’s ironic for me that I was a fan of Jones but am defending my criticism of him on another thread but wasn’t a Lewis fan but am now sticking up for him here lol. I mentioned the Leonard / Duran rematch due to what I thought was you not giving Lewis credit for winning the McCall rematch because of McCall’s drug issues. Leonard and Lewis both lost their first bouts and won their rematches but with their opponents not being at their fittest. It’s unfortunate from a fan’s perspective that neither Duran or McCall were fighting fit but Leonard and Lewis weren’t to blame. Part of being a professional is taking care of yourself at all times, not just the big show. This is true for all of life, not just boxing. I was wrong when I said that Lewis and Marciano were the only heavyweights that retired having defeated everybody they faced. You mentioned Johannson and Tunney, as well. I also didn’t know about Bowe - I just assumed he had an unavenged loss, but you seemed to forget him too in your first post. I’m not sure what you mean by saying Bowe is superior to Lewis, though? If so, I disagree. Bowe ducked Lewis, and for as talented as he was, he was a spent force after Holyfield. Speaking of Holyfield, Lennox was blatantly robbed in the first fight which led to the rematch. Iirc, Holyfield did better but still not enough to win. I watched the fight at the time and I personally don’t remember thinking a rubber match was warranted. I do seem to remember that maybe the fight was a little closer than the first one but the judges scored it a wider for Lewis, like saying sorry for the first fight. Ymmv. You’re right that LL lacked charisma. He always came across as a little aloof and too cerebral to connect with fans. Following the savagery of Tyson and blood and guts of Holyfield, cool and calculating and at times complacent Lewis didn’t really register. I didn’t see the Mercer fight but I did see the Vitaly fight. The way I remember was that he and Vitaly were rocking each other and it was a heck of a scrap, with Vitaly getting the better of it but Lewis coming on and Vitaly tiring at the time of the stoppage due to that ghastly gash. V was up on the cards but was nevertheless deemed medically unfit to continue. On the one hand a real tough break and on the other it was a moral victory. But Lennox didn’t “owe” him a rematch. Sure, it was a disappointment but again, that’s life. Like I said awhile back, imho a prime and motivated Lewis could beat any heavyweight in history, to say nothing of Wilder, Joshua, Parker, Povetkin etc. Again ymmv. I do appreciate your historical knowledge.
He beats all of them.Fury might go the distance using his speed to keep out the way .Povetkin could do ok as Lewis struggled with shorter fighters sometimes points decision for Lewis .AJ would be destroyed early like grant as would Wilder.
Your talking as if the UK Scene was booming,it wasnt all we had was Bruno and he already got KTFO by Tyson. You missed my point,He could've gone to America and furthered his career thier whilst being a Canadian Fighter, are you saying America didnt have the money or Infastructure?? If Lewis really gave a **** about Canada he would've tried to Box their and bring big time boxing their,he didnt even try.Because his focus was on cominf HOME,which is London,England.
