Dear Friends kind regards Today we continue with our Fantasy warfare series. In 2002, Lennox Lewis finally got the chance to face Mike Tyson and here was the result of this confrontation. [gv]5086295093593485291&q=[/gv] Lennox Lewis hammered Mike Tyson over eight rounds and eventually knocked him out. There are question marks over whether Lewis could have done this to a prime Mike Tyson. I watched this match in 2002 and thought that it was splendid at the time, but it has become obvious over the years that Tyson wasn't the force of old. What did you make of Lewis versus Tyson in 2002? Who do you think would win in a prime for prime clash between Lewis and Tyson? If you could give me your opinions and cntribute to the poll I'd appreciate it. yours thankfully John
i think lewis still takes it prime for prime, tyson did not have the same hunger and desire as he did in his prime. but even if he did, i still think lewis boxs tyson from the outside and still KO's tyson, but later on in the fight maybe 11th or 12th round
I would take lewis 8 out of 10 times. You cannot discount Tyson with his speed, power and strength but I believe Lewis would have outboxed Tyson for a 12 UD.
I go Lewis but its close and if Tyson catches him its lights out! This is by no means improbable given that Lewis was caught by the limited Rahman. But as pshed said, I'd go with Lewis 8 times out of ten!
I think a prime Tyson Knocks out Lewis to be honest. By the time they eventually did fight Tyson was almost done as a top guy of the division and Lewis was in or around his prime. Lewis got better as he got older due to his style and the opposite can be said for Tyson as his style suits a man in his younger years. Prime Tyson, with his body and head movement would at some point nail Lewis off guard with a fast right or left and i cant see Lewis getting up from that. Whilst Tyson was a huge puncher, it was the speed of his shots which really done the damage and if a guy such as Rahman can KO Lewis, albeit an out of shape Lewis then a prime Tyson can certainly do so. I admit i was/am a huge Tyson fan but i can also see reason in arguements against him, as i am not blinded by nuthuggery. At the end of the day, both guys will go down as Legends and the debate as to who would win prime for prime will always be there. On there actual fight in '02 i think Tyson proved that he definetly had heart and a iron chin considering the punishment he took in the fight.
Prime for prime I think it'd be a close fight, with Tyson having the edge winning a close UD or even a late rds TKO. Lewis will have a hard time landing his jab on the constantly bobbing and weaving Tyson, who will close the distance and fire fast combinations to Lewis body and head. Lewis will catch him with some nasty uppercut and rights on the way, but Tysons good chin will hold. I'm talking about a fast and motivated Tyson here, with good stamina, 86-88 period. Lewis is technically the better boxer, but remember Tyson had good defense and boxing skills himself in his prime, he was not a fat David Tua. Any version of past prison Tyson gets KOed by any version Lennox Lewis.
Der Doubleupthejab kind regards Here is the match up featuring Mike Tyson versus Danny Williams. [dm]xk0r4&related=1[/dm] This match up highlighted that Tyson was a washed up old has been by that point. But then again, Tyson did twist his knee in the first round of that match. But there is no doubt that Tyson was a shell of his former self by 2002. yours thankfully John
For all people harp on about the old days when it comes to heavyweights, its good to say that in my years watching boxing i can say i have been around whilsy 4 All Time Greats have been around, Holmes (early80's), Tyson (Mid 80's 90's), Holyfield (90's) and Lewis (late 90's early 00's). It pains me to say it but i honestly cant see anyone come along soon to light up the division but you never know. I like Haye and think he may do well but his shakey chin will be his downfall against the evergrowing big boys of boxing.
I agree that he will be KOd at some point but hopefully he will get a chance to at least inject some excitement in the division. I want to see him KO a good half a dozen heavies then fight for an established title .I'm guessing it will still be Klit and Peter that have them - fancy him against the latter but think either Klitschko would have Haye's number
You have to remember Lewis wasnt exactly No1 great prior to hooking up with Steward, in fact he put up some horrible performances under Pepe Corea (sp)
Agree - both legends. The advantage I see Lewis having over most of Tyson's opponents is that I do not think he would have been as scared as most - a lot of Tyson opponents looked as though they had lost before they even got into the ring and appeared to want to survive rather than fight. As his Lewis's losses have shown - he learns by mistakes... once caught by Tyson I think he will adjust and not be caught out again (hence 8 out of 10 times Lewis wins). Just my opinion though - and I am by no means an expert. I think Lewis was smarter than that.. and also believe he had the size and mobility and boxing ability to frustrate Tyson.
He will definetly bring much needed excitement to a crap division and will get some good wins against decent contenders. He will need to tighten his defence up big time though. I think a fight with Wlad could end up being a classic esp if Haye brings up his power with him and his fast hand speed could cause Wlad trouble but if Haye gets tagged i cant see him take it too well. Interesting fight though.
Dear Friends kind regards I am delighted by the intelligent responses to this thread. One thing to bear in mind is that Mike Tyson never fought a boxer as great as Lennox Lewis in his prime. As pshed rightly points out, Lewis was highly skilled and wouldn't have been intimidated. A prime Tyson would be taking on a man with a great jab, great punching power and he wouldn't be scared of Tyson's aura. This match up is not as cut and dry as some people make it out to be, even if Tyson wins, he would be challenged to breaking point in this match. It must be stated that Lennox Lewis went into the ring with an almost psychic knowledge of his opponents ability, he wouldn't have stepped into the ring against a prime Tyson unprepared in any way. These are points to consider before making a judgement on this Fantasy warfare match up. yours thankfully John
They already fought. Lennox Lewis destroyed Mike Tyson. Luckily for Tyson, it ended short of 12 rounds. If it hadn't and it went all 12 rounds, Tyson would have come out of the rind in a body bag. :hi:
