Thats exactly what he was. He stood right in front of Wlad in the rematch and blocked shots with his face. True story.
Lewis by mid to late rounds stoppage The strength and power difference is just too much. Lewis would walk through him.
lennox walks down the byrd that stopped prime vitali (that he stopped even faster when in his worst form ever). suk it in, kliturds. yes that includes you below VVV
Do you come from Arkansas, or the Eastern Bloc equivalent? atsch For the record, Lennox would employ someone like Dempsey to go out and buy the bottled water for his sparring partners, and between using his spit bucket and skipping knock Foreman the FUK out.:yep
I call it the way Lewis called it: "Byrd offers no competitive challenge to me." ...as well as Lewis getting $1M for doing nothing... ...Oh - and a Range Rover thrown in. Not a difficult decision to make - all things considered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I love how everyone assumes Lennox wins. Lennox didn't fight southpaws for a reason. Yes Lennox was better fighter but he may stunk against a lefty we'll never know. What we do know is he never fought one and we had Byrd, Sanders, Moorer just to name 3 good ones that fought in his era.
Byrd could make things tricky for Lewis but he likely gets bullied down the stretch and loses on points.
So can we assume that you assume Lewis wins (regardless of whether or not Byrd and he stink the joint out)? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
People seem to forget that after Lewis declared Byrd "presents no challenge", he went and made a fight with Kirk Johnson. The circumstances of history have been kind to Lennox Lewis in this case, since Kirk Johnson pulled out and Vitali Klitschko stepped in. Lewis, to his credit, accepted Klitschko as replacement, but the fact that Lewis considered Johnson acceptable over Byrd in the first place diminishes his stated reason for turning down Byrd. The other aspect of the episode was that Lewis was trying to force Tyson into an utterly pointless (from a fan's point of view) rematch through the law courts, which seemed cruel and greedy, but he had a contract to that effect and I probably would have done the same. Lewis put a lot of favourable spin on his career and business dealings, and why certain fights did not occur. I admire the way he did what was best for hm but i don't buy all the spin he was pushing.
No not really. Because I have no idea how Lewis would do against a southpaw and Byrd was a quality southpaw. I remember in the 90s it was reported that Lewis stunk against southpaws and his team would not put him in the ring with one. I actually think it would have been a very intriguing match. Byrd made Vitali look bad at times and Vitali has a far greater punch out put than Lewis does in his fights. He also had a better chin which helped him when Byrd countered him a several occasions. Both Vitali and Lewis were not the most athletic guys and I can foresee Byrd having success. Lewis is a bigger puncher than Vitali so of course he could nail Byrd and end the fight or maul him with uppercuts. But he could also end up chasing Byrd missing by a lot and leave himself wide for counters because again he never faced lefties and reports are that he struggled with them. Lewis better fighter? Sure not debatable. Does he win this matchup? Not so sure.
