Lewis easily. Foreman was bad, couldn't even throw punches properly. He was lucky he got a shot frazier.
Foreman definitely has a better chin than Lewis. Although I think Lewis plus Steward would win on points (like Tua), in the case of Foreman plus Steward - I think Foreman would win; by knockout.
Who knows ! Lewis was the more polished Boxer but he has been caught and stopped twice in his career off lesser punchers than Foreman. 15 rounds against Foreman with Dick Sadler as his Trainer,I’d like to think he’s going to touch Lewis at some point,later,older Foreman with Charlie Shipes as his Trainer and 12 rounds I’d have to give the edge to Lewis but Foreman was still a dangerous opponent even then and still had the ability to turn a losing fight round with one single punch,which is how both Lewis’s losses came about .
I think we always look to negative anomalies in a fighters career to justify our picks. Yes Lewis was stopped twice and could look fragile, and yes Foreman could gas and could be hurt, but the truth is in their 100/100 states, 100% their best, 100% of a fight, they were both monsters. I think Lewis' 100% gives him the style to beat Foreman relatively comfortably. Yes, comfortably. He has the size, athleticism and movement. He had a very good jab and enough power to keep Foreman honest. Young George would never have fought anyone with Lewis blend of attributes and would be lucky to hear the bell in my opinion. Rather perversely, I think Old George hears the bell. More defensively prudent, set really good traps. His style as an older fighter does better against Lewis whereas the impetiousity of youth is his undoing ad a younger man. Lewis still wins comfortably in my opinion. It is only time they has allowed me to find this appreciation for Lewis, I wasn't a fan. But boy, he was something....
Lewis wins. Lewis imo is the best ever H2H. Ali may be more accomplished but in terms of an actual fight, I don’t think anyone can beat a prime focused Lewis.
Odd comment given that he got knocked out by McCall and Rahman, outboxed by Mercer, scraped by Holyfield in the rematch. His best wins on paper are against totally shot versions of Tyson and Holyfield, and against a Vitali who didn’t get a full camp, was up on the cards when he got cut. I also remember Lewis losing every round to Bruno until Bruno gassed like he always did, labouring to win a points decision against that Eastern European guy, doing nothing but get put on the canvas by Akinwande while he waited for his terrified opponent to get disqualified. I mean look I’m probably the biggest Lewis hater on here but I honestly don’t get why people consider him some h2h monster. Does blasting through Ruddock and Briggs really make you the best fighter ever? I just don’t get it. I do think Lewis beats Foreman tho. Bad style match up for George.
I don't entirely agree with this post. Holyfield was considered to be the number 1 Heavyweight in the world after beating Tyson x2, Moorer, he wasn't shot far from it. Past his best ? Yes. But shot to me is like Ali against Holmes and Holyfield wasn't even close to that he was still very much world class. Lewis was out of shape vs Vitali weighing in at the highest weight of his career not to mention he was at the end of his career. Bruno didn't gas vs Lewis he had Lewis trapped in the corner, and Lewis countered with a big left hook and that was the beginning of the end for Bruno. So that wasn't Bruno gassing that was Bruno who was on the attack walking into a big counter punch he didn't see coming. Why is Lewis rated highly H2H wise ? Because he has one of the best Heavyweight resumes outside of Louis, Ali. He's a skillful Super Heavyweight. And there's not 1 Heavyweight in history that you would make a big favourite over Lewis.
Lewis wins similar to the Mercer fight but he'll be able to hurt George more, although he'll be forced on the backfoot from time to time after getting stunned
