Was just re-watching Holmes vs Cooney

Larry beat Gerry like a drum in that fight, and I know Lennox is nothing like Holmes but they both keep that jab pumping.

    Who wins this one? :bbb

Lewis is at different level than Cooney was, too much of everything for Cooney to deal with and I'm sure he would be watching for the left hook.

Depends what version of Lewis shows up. If it is the attacking Lewis then he blows Cooney out of the water early just like he did to Golota and in Rahman rematch. If it's the cautious Lewis then he would win by later stoppage or decision.

My gut feeling is that you would get probably see the attacking version of Lewis in this fight given the type of opponent Cooney would have been. But like you said, either version would beat him.

Does Lewis have his trunks pulled up to his neck like he did against Holyfield to negate Cooney's body work?

Yeah that was some crazy **** that Lewis,Steward and co pulled. It only happened once though and he didn't do it in the rematch.

As mentioned above, Lewis wins this, the style of victory depends on which Lewis turns up.

But it would be funny if.Cooney knocked Lewis out with an overhand right

I guess it would be pretty funny, since it never happened before!

    LOL great answer.

Seriously though, prime Lewis stops Cooney even if he will be cautious. Cooney couldn't take Lewis' bombs.

about the only thing Cooney has is a puncher's chance, but Lewis has to be heavily favored here.

Cooney is more dangerous than the power punchers Lewis bombed out early.
Bigger and even more powerful left hook than Morrison, imo more dangerous
than Rahman, Botha, Ruddock, etc. This is due to his height advantage, a good jab,
and crushing power to the body and head with the left hook. I think Lewis would
be weary of coming out aggressive for fear of being stopped. I think he wears
Cooney down and gets a stoppage. If Lewis came out banging he may get stopped
for his trouble. That also might be his best bet though. Cooney could pull the
upset. I would have Cooney would be at +350 prob betting odds, but in reality
he would be +150. Lennox can't eat that hook. A shot Cooney wobbled Big George.
    Lennox KO 8.

Lewis has a solid track record of beating the larger upright hitters though, ie. Vitali Klitschko, Michael Grant, Henry Akinwande, Shannon Briggs, Andrew Golata, etc. Aside from winning the lottery with a big punch at the right time, I can't see any reason why Gerry would be given much of a chance. I like Cooney and felt that if his potential had been properly manifested, he could have been better. But the dice fell where it fell and he's just not well suited for Lennox Lewis.

I agree with Magoo other than a punchers chance for GC, Lewis has to be heavily favored to score the KO

I see Lennox making pretty quick work of Cooney even on Cooney's best day. Lewis more often then Holmes would blow away opponents this can be attributed to him being a very devastating puncher. Cooney on his best day gave Holmes a tough go but I don't see that being the case with Lewis. I think Lewis would catch Cooney at some point in the early rounds with a big right hand likely dropping him then if Cooney gets to his feet Lewis would follow up and finish him off. Now Lewis vs Holmes is a very interesting match up.

Cooney would have good chance early to shatter Lewis's suspect chin, like McCall and Rahman did. The longer it goes, the more likely Lewis wins.
