Lennox Lewis vs Gerry Cooney

This fight in my opinion would.be.ugly for Cooney, and i would.make Lewis about a 10-1 favorite, if 200 lb Michael.Spinks was able to bounce Cooney all around the ring, Lewis who had.a huge punch and at 250lbs would.crush Gerry to bits..

I suspect this fight might go 3 or 4 rounds and thats it....

 

I think most of us ( including myself ) would bet our house on Lewis.. But 10-1 odds are a bit excessive when placing a top 50 all time hitter in with a man who was KO'd by McCall, Rahman, and rocked pretty badly by Mercer and Bruno. And using the Spinks fight isn't a gauge that I would apply... Cooney was deconditioned and had seen one round of boxing in three years.

 

cooney has a chance vs the green lewis that faced bruno, but a peak lewis would be cautious,and cooney would be looking for a predictable left hook during all the fight and lewis would be kicking his ass in the way. lewis by stoppage , i don´t think that this fight would go to the distance, but lennox never had a good chin he should be careful, he did not take a shot like foreman did

 

Lennox wins this early. Too skilled for Cooney and could hit harder.

 

You know, I wouldn't be totally shocked if Cooney pulled off an upset.

For goodness sake...ATG Lennox beats an extremely over rated Cooney any way he chooses....quick or slow.

 

You cannot count as at all likely a Lewis lapse, & you must consider all the big hitters he stood up to. Overall he had a good chin, with lapses. Cooney likely could hit even harder, but just not nearly as skilled overall.

It goes maybe to the middle distance. At most, if Lewis is cautious.

 

Excellent styles makes fights matchup.

Cooney is all wrong for Lewis, I actually think Cooney good chance to take this one.

Lewis would not be bigger than Cooney, and Cooney can be very aggressive. This fight wont go past 3 rounds in any case.

Cooney has a very fast and powerful left hook, both to the body and head, he will go inside and bring the fight. IF Cooney gets past the Jab, he can really do some damage.
If he gets Lewis respect, and then Lewis fights off the back foot just a little....One of Cooneys bombs could end it.

But, any longer than 3 rounds and Cooney is done for.

 

My thoughts exactly... Lewis would be the favorite for obvious reasons, but an early KO upset by Cooney isn't unlikely.

 

Mismatch. Cooney gets knocked out in 2-3 rounds, without landing anything.

 

If ****ey was a little bit stronger, he might get Lennox.But he's not, so Lennox would get to Gerry very early, and Lewis will have him out by the 2 minute mark of the first round.

 

If Rahman and mcall can ko Lewis ****ey definately can but as much as it pains me to say it Lewis would probably win this 1

 

For the millionth time, the ****ey that fought Spinks was hung over from drugs and alcohol. Best not to even consider that version.
