You have to be selective about which Lewis turns up. Very inconsistent fighter even in his prime. He’d put in a top performance then complete mediocrity. Best he ever looked at heavyweight against Morrison. Then soon after getting lumped round the ring and gifted a decision against the Mercer who had comfortably lost to an ancient Holmes and shopworn Holyfield. Good in first Holyfield fight, almost(some say did) outhustled by a washed 37 year old in the rematch. Put in one of the worst performances ever from a prime ‘ATG’ against Mavrovic etc

 

No better than the other little men who beat these guys none of whom I ever see picked over Lewis in fights.

 

The problem with that is that the other little men who beat them went life and death with them.

They didn't dominate them.

You would also have to ask why men like Fulton and Willard didn't do at least as well as the smaller contenders who faced Dempsey.
