Here in the UK we have muntjack deer which are the size of overgrown hares, red deer which can be 600 lbs , and everything in between.
Do you think Dempsey has any sort of chance at all? Which other matches have you seen that are particularly ridiculous?
Who gives a **** if Jeffries carried a deer a long way? I certainly won't be moving him lower than his current birth, #7, higher than Tyson, Holmes, Marciano, Jackson, if it turns out to be untrue.
Admittedly, 9 miles seems a ridiculous long distance. It would take 2 hours at a normal decent walking pace to cover that WITHOUT a 300 pound dead animal on your back, so it would have taken Jeffries a long time, the majority of daylight hours. (As for Jeff's bodyweight, I actually think it more likely that a SMALLER strong man would be suited to carrying very heavy things over long distances.) It may well have been a smaller animal, or a shorter distance. Things do get embellished, of course. But the moral of the story is the same :- Jeff was strong and carried dead animals. Men of that age were cut from a different cloth. Modern man has been ruined by the automoblie, processed foods and internet porn.
No, not really, about a 2% puncher's chance maybe. Ones I'd rather not comment on, more due to my often-changing opinions about certain eras. Then again, some just due to style matchups, even in a more modern era.
Yeah, except that big buffoon Firpo knocked him out the ring, maybe he zigged when he should have zagged? He'd be flattened if Lewis fancied apoting that strategy. But when pitted with a 188Iber he most likely would.
I've picked Lewis but I think Dempsey has a much better chance than this, probably upward of 10% (that is, I would expect Dempsey to beat Lewis more than 1/10). What is it particularly that makes it a bad match up for Demspsey, do you think? What chance do you see Matt Skelton as having against peak Lewis, as a %? :think A very diplomatic answer.
That would be the betting odds between Joe Louis and Jack Roper. Realisticaly if we match two genuine all time great heavyweights, can anybody realisticaly have that kind of edge?
I'd give Lewis the customary "puncher's chance" against Dempsey. I think the fight would be over before that chance really kicks in though. Dempsey would waste no time. Lewis's goose is cooked in this one.
Baer might have punched harder than anyone fullstop. That is from the point of view of single shot pure power.
Realisticaly Would you give anybody much better than 50/50 odds against Dempsey, Louis, Ali etc, if the fight was going to happen tomorrow and your prediction would be put to the test?
