Why did they give Holyfield chances then?

Wilt and Russell were terrible and dominated against small, unathletic white men with no skill. They played against no one else taller than 6 foot 2

I'm willing to bet I'd beat him, nevermind lasting.

My high school football coach was very good friends with Lou Duva and used to invite him out and from time to time Duva would bring Holyfield with him. I’m 6 foot and Holyfield was basically the same height as me when I met him.

Also, before he became a household name Holyfield was often listed at 6’1”, which is closer to reality than his 6’2” or sometimes even 6’3” listing. This is also the case with Chris Byrd, who was also my height, but was often listed at 6’2”.

Here are a few articles mentioning Holyfield’s height earlier in his career. Gradually they increased his height listing for promotional purposes.

“Holyfield, the first of the 1984 Olympic boxers to win a pro title, dominated the final five rounds and survived a series of Qawi flurries in the 15th to win the split decision at the Omni in his hometown of Atlanta.”

'I feel I can handle anybody,' said Holyfield, who stands 6-1 and weighs 186 pounds. 'I'd like to defend my title two or three times, become the undisputed cruiserweight champ, then fight heavyweigh.

'If they want me to fight (Qawi) next, I'll do it, but I feel like Spinks will be next.'

“Holyfield, who stands 6 feet 1 inch, is projected at between 205 and 210 pounds as a heavyweight. Saturday night's fight, his last as a cruiserweight, was at 190.”
    https://eyeonthering.com/boxing/evander-holyfield-vs-carlos-de-leon

“Measuring Holyfield in 1987, publicist Kathy Duva recorded his height at 6-foot-1 1/2, his weight at 188 pounds and his chest at 44 inches. It was the waist measurement that furrowed Duva’s brow: “Evander’s waist is smaller than mine. So I added an inch to it.” Still, the heavyweight’s waist came to 29 inches.”

It depends on how you want to use the words 'early' and 'rarely'.

Lewis has a 70%+ strike-rate, for finishes inside the distance - 32 from 42 wins.

29 of the 32 stoppages occurred within 6 rounds. That's roughly 90% of his stoppages.

I wouldn't say these figures were indicative of a fighter, who rarely went for an early kill.

Sharkey is more likely to go, inside 6.

Then show me how many contenders he stopped early. Raw percentage is not a good argument by itself.

Well since Sharkey has been dead since 1994, you beat him by still being alive. In that case @Johnny_B by epic stoppage.

Lewis by skull explosion round three. An interesting idea but there are levels to this game.
