We're discussing in their primes, of course no other way. But Lewis was stilled KO'd in a lazy way considering he's easily top10 ATG. If we go best of best then Louis of Schmeling fighter is arguably the greatest fighter that ever lived.
All I see in the 3rd round is two guys who are too tall to fight properly, who look exhausted after 2 rounds (?!!) with zero coordination taking turns to stab out their long arms at eachothers nothin defences...both are completely forgetting about their defences....Lewis looks awfully sloppy (not like his usual self at all actually)...his hands only go up when it is obvious that he's being hurt but its more in a 'curl up in a ball' way....loads of tired leaning on...both are as bad as eachother in this one tottering around like a pair of amateurs at times...at least at 38 Joe Louis still showed good poise and balance and bodily control - and he could take his time a bit and didn't look like a drunk from exhaustion, he still kept control....in the 4th round both actually fall down together from exhaustion for christs sake?!!! It's embarrassing!!? Klit was soo awful - Lewis was absolutely there for the taking he actually resigned himself to just walking through whatever came his way because he was too tired to attempt to avoid them and he was just lunging desperately and winging haymakers and them gulping in some more air...when he does lever some uppercuts up they are brought up from the floor and its like he's just discovered them as a new invention (where were they for the previous 4 rounds??)...but then he soon reverts back to falling into Klit every two seconds he even swings a roundhouse right from no stance with no jab nothing just a big swing like a guy in a bar!?...Klit a supposedly great big young talent - the future of the division - should've chopped down this Lewis but if anything he was even worse than Lewis!!?
For the record: I only gave my thoughts on the Lewis Klit fight because you brought it up yourself as an example of Lewis showing that he isn't a tentative fighter - and by way of response before both of them got gassed out after 2 rounds they were both VERY tentative both holding their lefts out to keep the other standing off and neither wanting to make a move waiting and waiting eachother out - neither looked like they wanted to commit themselves before the other in those first two rounds
Agreed we do talk primes versions - and agreed, for me the 227lb Ruddock version of Lewis and the 198lb Max Baer version of Louis.... But considerations I feel do have to be made on how much potential there is for a given fighters performance levels to fluctuate and their lesser performances give us that degree of how much the performances levels can dip depending on the situation/circumstance/opponent in front of them etc and when things might go wrong how they might respond etc so for me you get a bit more depth when you look at the performances when old or out of shape etc ie for me the Lewis Klit fight showed how alarmingly little discipline and experience Lewis had (or at least showed he had) whereas say a Joe Louis of the same age 37/38 (though for me a much further declined fighter in relation to his old self than Lewis was) still looked a much more poised and controlled and dangerous fighter and showed a much greater experience and control in there against (whatever you think of Klit) much much MUCH better performing opponents in Ezzard Charles and Rocky Marciano....against Ezzard Charles even I have got to say that Joe Louis gave me the impression that had Ezzard stopped moving for a second that Joe Louis would've obliterated him - it does give us some more depth in gauging things a bit more - for instance if I'd only ever seen the pre1967 version of Ali I'd have no idea that Ali had such a great chin and toughness - I'd probably just think he was a speed demon but susceptible to a big puncher based on him getting knocked down and having the bell come to his aid against Henry Cooper and his general eagerness not to get touched - how wrong I would've been in reality if I hadn't seen the older slower versions I him
and? the point is that if he got knocked the **** out by this guy once, louis could do it hands down. (and i know i know... if max schmeling could ko louis... lennox could do it too.... but stylistically i pick louis)
I know!? The simplicity of these people is comedy - scary thing is they don't even realise themselves!?
laugh all you want, I still say the Lewis who beat Rahman beats any version of Louis or anyone he ever fought. In fact I'd be willing to bet your house on it.
