yea he could if he moved better but in reality he didnt move good enough and would be caught with a jab before it landed so no joe couldnt

maybe you should see how they moved in 90s compared to Joe's era see if you can see the advanced changes

He is clearly everything Lewis was not. Joe almost didn't mind getting KD. It's scary how stone-faced he was; not mean, just robotic in his destruction of opponents. I really don't think many fighters, and most truly are very tough men resilient to pain, could do what he did because they simply lacked the focus. I am not discounting his natural talent, but his stance and style required being in position to be hit as much as to hit. He wasn't a swarmer like Armstrong. He didn't have crazy head-movement like Lomachenko. He wasn't an in-between like Duran. Guys like Golovkin and Arguello are facsimiles, but they never had to face 200+ men whose entire justification for the title shot was their power punching.

Personally, I still pick Lewis. He's too big and skilled, and he uses it well against Louis. But it bothers me to make the pick, since Lewis was the opposite of Louis. I just don't see the heart. He hated getting hurt. He really wasn't the sort of guy to rise up after getting decked. He fought in the pre-VADA era.

Now, if Louis were to see the Mercer fight, and had the opportunity to bulk up and adjust his style, then maybe things would have been different. I think Joe would have been much better in the 90's than he was in his own era. Maybe slicksters would have troubled him more, but every thing he did great in the 30's, he would have done even better in the 90's. And the added bulk would have made him much more difficult to topple over.

 

I agree, Lewis is too big. The hook he beheaded Bruno with makes Buddy Baer's look like a love tap. Maybe not fair, but that is how it looks.

Still, I wonder how Louis would do if he could bulk up and study up on Lewis. Look what Mercer (ROBBED) and Holyfield did against Louis. Joe was naturally larger and FAAAAAR more talented than them.

 

Louis would need more then being bigger he would need to advance those outdated movements and better defense

oh I guess Lennox is supposed to move like louis era and tiptoe to make it a even match
no lennox uses his way better advanced movement and drops joe fast

it's a vid of ali and d'amato and ali is making fun of that tiptoe style while showing how easy and smooth he was on his feet
ali is another who would ko joe fast with sharp punches
