Wow 1 member of this forum besides myself who actually know boxing. Louis chin was extremely questionable even against smaller guys and even guys who couldn't punch. Lewis on the other hand was only hurt by modern sized heavyweights. Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, and other big time punchers would stop him. Even guys that aren't considered all time greats like Tommy Morrison in my opinion would stop him. Could Louis hurt Tommy? Probably but Morrison was way better and more powerful than guys like Tony Galento and as you said he floored Louis.
Since you have apparently blocked me, I could basically **** you in terms of the argument, and everybody would see it. You are lucky that I have principles.
Does Lewis have a bigger punch? Perhaps, but Louis was the better puncher and that is what counts. As far as Heavweights being better that is open for debate. The advantage that the each generation has over the older one is history. They see what works, tactics, etc. In the quality of the fighter that is again open for debate. I have seen in the gym first hand fighters that aren't greatly skilled or gifted beat guys that are a lot more skilled than them purely because they put in a lot of work and are very well conditioned.
Yeah 6'2 Oliver McCall dwarfs Joe Louis. He was so lean and ripped at 230 pounds, Joe could never hope to look that healthy at that weight. This is the man who was outboxed by Frank Bruno (that hurts me to use Bruno as a negative argument)
Theres nothing hard about a 6'5 240 plus guy trying to beat up a 6'2 200 pounder..not at all. To simplify this go check out the guys who dropped Lewis and the guys who dropped Louis. then look at the reach and footwork along with the one punch power each k.od guys with. do you actually think louis would stop any version of holyfield or Tyson so convincinley ?( he wouldnt stop them at all ) Could Billy Conn ( i have to use him as he was a few that actually jabbed )out box lewis even though he was 170 pounds and a sub par power puncher? this is kind of laughable TBH.. When you have on footage 190 pound Braddock off a 2 year lay off downing louis in rnd one,how do yopu use any guy against Lewis that suggest he was more than less for Louis to be defeated?? But hey each to his own ,its the classic section so i guess it makes it competitive...how ? Well you got me there because its not logical to suggest Louis defeats Lewis ( and if this fight were sanctioned in todays era ,ppl would cry foul at Lennox Lewis, he would have to have a worse night than Tyson had in 1990 to lose to Joe.
Ahem. Louis weighed in at 214lb against Walcott in 1948. Holyfield weighed in at 215lb against Lewis in their first meeting where they drew. Mercer, who is a small heavyweight, whose best fighting weight is about 220lb, gave Lewis all he could handle when they met (and some say he won), despite coming in flabby. Louis is NOT THAT SMALL. In my opinion, Louis > Holyfield and Mercer. Lewis is well within the range of somebody like Joe Louis to beat. People writing Louis off as though he had no chance at all are, with respect, the ones that DKSAB.
So louis is prime in 1948...ahem? Louis was prime at 195/200 pounds. Mercer was 6'2 225 pounds solid muscle and SOLId chin, did he ever get floored by anyone remotly like Galento or Buddy Baer..who ironically was closest to Lewis being the height and girth...ahem? Lewis is well within Louis range to beat? Really like who did Louis beat that size with decent skills and style with a 84 inch jab and outweighed him by 40 pounds or so ? Stupidity! come'on now you guys can do better than this! baer didnt even know how to throw jabs at range if at all and still knocked louis out of the ring...sheesh
Louis beat Carnera who was 260lb, by KO. Lewis couldn't get 214lb Mavrovic the Baker out of there with his Sunday punches. Lewis got one-shotted by Rahman and McCall. Clearly Lewis has no chance. How's that for reversing the argument?
As i said who with ACTUAL skill as a big guy did louis beat? You didnt reverse anything but a fools continued losing points of desperation! stylistically a tall lengthy jabber from the outside does not mimick a slow footed chinny open defense like louis does it? Based on Mavrovic he does bad against Louis? Well gee golly gosh i better review all those other demolishing jobs Lewis did to far better fighters...better yet why dont i just watch billy conn who was 30 pounds less than louis win 12 rnds? SMh People who dont know Shyte about boxing would only persue this one. Lewis wouldnt even be allowed to fight the guys who actually did beat louis llike Walcott and Godoy as the others who knocked him down who would be light heavy weights or fat bar drunks standing 5'9...think about that one.
FACT: Buddy Baer weighed 250lb and Louis beat the tar out of him OMG another SHW destroyed by Louis FACT: Lewis' chin was nothing special FACT: Joe Louis could hit like a ton of bricks and was one of the best punchers in history FACT: Lewis had trouble with much lesser fighters than Louis* FACT: Lewis couldn't get rid of a little Croatian baker with his best shots CONCLUSION: Anybody that thinks it's a foregone conclusion that Lennox beats Joe is an idiot and deserves a pounding to the head How this forum has fallen *Unless you reckon that Levi Billups, Mercer, et al are much better than Joe Louis, in which case I can't help you.
Fact : Louis lost to Godoy ( even if you think he didnt ) Fact Louis also lost to Walcott ( everyone knows that) Fact : Louis was dropped by a drunk of 5'9 Fact: Louis was dropped by 190 pound guy with arthritis and out 2 years Fact : Louis was totally blasted by another past prime guy Shmelling of 195 pounds and he clearly threw the rematch for personal reasons. Fact : Louis had poor defense and open to over hand rights (Lewis bets punch) Fact : the best louis fought at was 195/200 pounds Fact : no big man at that time fought smart and used distance correctly b/c they werent taught o like today. Fact : Baer knocked louis out of the ring, this was sloppy no jab Baer and the spectators helped him back in. Fact : Louis was outboxed by a former light weight of 140 pounds and when he fought Louis he was 170 pounds and outboxed him for 12 rnds this guy had a 20% k.o percentage ( imagine lewis showcasing such an event?lol) Fact: Its impossible to give louis the win based on ALL my facts here and that no SHW existed in his time with refined skills to take advantage of size and the guys he struggled with wouldnt qualify as a Lewis sparring partner.....
You're either daft or trolling me, in which case, well done, you got me No SHW existed in his time, eh? Yet I just quoted you two? Schmeling threw the rematch, right? Well, so much for Classic. Maybe another poster can give you a hand. I'll leave you to it.
If you knew your actual boxing history..Shmelling protested the rematch ( TWO years later nonetheless )and didnt want to win b/c of hitlers propaganda! oops look like you made yet another mistake. I said SHw with skill....Baer didnt even know how to throw stiff jabs from range and keep it up...yet knocked louis out of the ring...answer this do you think lewis would let Buddy Baer in as his sparring partner ? lmao Read ALL my facts son and move along b/c its end game for you! well at least when i post common sense will thrive on here!
People will argue till blue in face that lennox would not or could not defeat Louis. But there looking at Joe in the 30 "s and 40s knocking guys out then. And yes he was great for that time time like dempsey was for his and John l sullivan was for his but putting those guys in modern era they would lose. It's a undeniable fact!!
