Forgone conclusion.. Norton didn't have the power to pull off a Rahman or McCall and he didn't have the chin or the ability to fight off the back foot to wage war with Lewis over the long haul. I like Ken but this is a no win situation for him.
While this is true, I think Norton would be emboldened because Lewis was taken out early, and didn't exactly talk or act like a USA based heavyweight. I'd pick Lewis, but think Norton could pull off an upset / have a good effort in defeat. Norton's jab, body work, and right hand, as an over all skill set is even to or greater than Holyfield's. Good jabbers ( Vitali, Mercer, Holy ) and big right hand punchers ( Vitali, Rhaman, McCall ) gave Lewis trouble. You could say Norton has a bit of both.
Of course, Norton was a very decent fighter and could cause Lewis some problems, it's a tough call but i would lean towards Lewis but with no certainty.
Norton would have a chance. Lewis sometimes let his opponents hang around and that could be a mistake again Ken Norton. If Kenny gets warmed up and is able to shutdowm Lewis jab it could be close.
If Lewis comes out as he did against Golota ,then Ken s out fast .If he's more like he was against Bruno there's a possibility that he make's it a hard slog against Norton .
This in my mind is fairly easy to pick, Lewis easily top 15 all time, probably closer to the 10 spot, I have him at #12 on my all time list, Norton maybe top 20 or so, or at the least top 25, no Lewis wins it, better everything than Norton, Ken does not come out on top in 1 single category over Lewis, no way he can win.
This would be one of Lewis toughest challenges.Kenny had a good jab and the power to knock Lennox out.My guess Lewis would fight a cautious fight and it would go to the cards.Close fight.I say Lewis by SD.
Norton is quicker by a good bit. He is awkward defensively. Kenny had excellent boxing skills himself. McCall or Rahman didn't have any categories over Lewis but boxing has other variables.
You have nailed Ken Nortons real weakness,,he had to constantly come forward. When he couldn't he was open to getting hit, heck ,anyone who stands in front of Earnie Shavers and George Foreman will get bombed, he was 38 when he fought Cooney, that was an out the door fight he was finished at that point. This fight could be much better than some think, Nortons style was very awkward for boxers, and if he has Lewis constantly retreating in a 15 rounder he could gas Lennox out with pressure. Still I'd make Lewis 5-2 favorite,
I tend to think that Norton has a better chance then most are giving him credit for; while I think Lewis should be the favorite I think that this match up would resemble the competitiveness of Lewis vs Holyfield II more so Lewis vs Golota, or Norton vs Shavers for that matter. Ken was a skilled fighter, he had a solid right hand and a great jab. He knew how to counter the jab well and he always seemed to create a puzzle for great jabbers like Ali and Holmes. He could very well upset Lewis, but If I'm a betting man I would wager on Lennox only what I'm willing to lose.
Your talking about putting Norton up against someone almost as skilled as Holmes but hit as hard as cooney. Norton doesn't have a wonderful chance here I'm sorry
