Holmes UD. Lewis is too cautious to do anything except try an outbox Holmes and he can't pure and simple. Can't out jab him either therefore Holmes UD
That's a weird view of Lewis. He could be really aggressive, and he had absolute wars with some. And hell, one of his losses was due to him showboating and NOT being cautious. Also, while Holmes outboxed some good boxers and knocked out some punchers, he never faced someone like Lewis, who was close to the best of his era in terms of skill while also being one of the hardest hitting of his era. That's a lot to deal with for anyone.
I agree a UD is most likely, but in a 15 round fight I don't like Lennox's chances in the real championship rounds of 13-15. On another note, I've seen Holmes get off the mat to win a fight, never seem Lewis do that. If Holmes gets Lewis in trouble late he'll stop him.
He would’ve got off the mat against Snipes for sure (who had no business with his power scoring that kind of knockdown anyway), but not Shavers. Holmes would’ve endured both Lewis’ knockouts. If I were Manny Steward I would refuse to corner this fight unless I had a written guarantee from Lewis to storm out at the first bell & commit to an all-out assault. That’s by far his best chance here & you just know he will show Holmes way too much respect, opening the door to getting outboxed in the process.
Larry would have been supremely irritated at Lewis' size and (not as good but still quite good) jab. I imagine the first few rounds would have mostly been feeling out, with Lewis making his size and strength known and Larry staying wary but landing some smart body punches. Holmes starts tracking him with the jab in the 4th. Lewis gets off some great rights in the 5th, but he's having a lot of trouble landing flush. Both men are still mostly cautious. In the 7th Holmes lands a sweat-flinging overhand right behind a nasty jab, which is a portent of things to come. Lewis uses the jab a lot less and begins loading up on the right past the 9th, but Holmes is getting there first, and for the first time the early body blows are showing their effect on Lewis. In the 11th Lewis tries to rally with a stunning right that floors Holmes, but Larry scrapes himself up and is back in control by the end of the round. Lewis chases Larry around but lands very little of consequence in the 12th, and he's really starting to blow hard. The 13th features Holmes landing the overhand right more and more, and Lewis is having trouble keeping his hands up. The ref stops the fight in the 14th with Lewis staggering around as a living target.
