I'd give Moorer a shot. He was a Southpaw with a good right hand. Lewis had issues with fighters who can punch well with their right hand, and as far as I recall never fought a world class southpaw. I'd pick Lewis to win, but also think at their best Moorer was better than Rahman or McCall, and they KO'd Lewis early with one big right hand. It could be a wild type of fight. Sure Moorer wasn't durable, but when hurt he fought back as hard as he could. 65/35 in favor of Lewis.
Yeah, I was kidding. But then, seriously, if Michael Moorer had any sort of KO defeat to a Jaco on his record it WOULD BE USED as proof that he was chinny. As it is, he was KO'd by Foreman, Tua and Holyfield and people tend to think he gets KO'd easily in fantasy fights. I find that somewhat strange.
He SAID he had an asthma attack. It's possible he did. It's very possibly just an excuse. To me, it looked like Jaco out-toughed him and beat him.
I think his chin is underrated. He did manage to survive some direct hits from Bert Cooper, Alex Stewart and an aged yet still dangerous Bonecrusher. But his durability isn't sufficient to where I think he'd weather a flury from Lewis. That's not to say that he'd be KO'd the first time Lennox landed a glove on him though.
I don't think he'd beat Lennox Lewis. I do think he'd beat Frank Bruno. And I'd definitely lean towards him beating Razor Ruddock.
I think he'd go a few rounds with the 1994 version of Lennox Lewis. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him last the distance. The fact that Lewis's year consisted of the fights with Phil Jackson and Oliver McCall - a dull 8th round stoppage win, and a 2nd round stoppage defeat - makes me feel like we should certainly being giving Moorer some sort of chance of scoring an upset too. Moorer's resume for the year - W12 Holyfield and LKO10 Foreman - was about on a par.
I often wish Moorer had been able to stay LHW. It was a fun, though frustratingly so as people werent fighting each other, division at the time. I don't see him beating Lewis. He might rock him, but he wasn't the same KO artist at HW. He brought power up, but not at the level I think gets him past Lewis.
I'm wondering exactly how highly people would rate Moorer in head to head fights if Evander Holyfield had actually shown up healthy and without medical issues in 1994 :think
We would have missed some Teddy Atlas gems like...."you're gonna cry Michael...". Though he did rightly call out that something wasn't right with Holy field that night. Sent from my Lenovo B8000-F using Tapatalk
Had he failed to beat that sick version of Holyfield, I doubt he'd even rate as high as Golota today. Let alone being placed up against Lewis in head to head fights and awarded odds to give him fits.
I wonder how HIGHLY 1994 Lennox Lewis would be rated had he not been KO'd by ordinary Oliver McCall ! He's already a God around here. Imagine if he'd actually won. :think :good
Ironically probably not as high. The loss to McCall is what prompted him to fire his trainer and bring aboard Manny Steward, ultimately resulting in him becoming a significantly better fighter.
