It's a simple question. Curious which fighters he beat were considered GREAT.

  3. lewis did beat past prime holyfield twice, past prime evander destroyed tyson twice.
Lewis(older than tyson 1 year) destroyed tyson.
Tyson was destroyed by douglas, is not matter if he did not train, it is his fault. Larry holmes was pathetic in 1988, he said to don king " i did nothing during 2 years, i can´t beat mike tyson" . Holmes was simply meat for money. He was better in 1992, because he was trained, old but trained.
And spinks... this victory was A joke, this man was a great lhw but he was not better than david tua or tommy morrison as hw. Tons of prime legend would destroy spinks... Lewis did beat tua, morrison, evander, vitali(by cuts or not , he was past his prime and vitali was in his prime),mercer,rahman,mccall.. Lewis did beat better rivals than tyson did. because lewis did beat also some rivals of tyson like ruddock,tyrell,bruno,weaver...

Thanks for answering. At least you make your case. I apparently agreed with the post earlier made by Lefthook31. Those guys you mentioned were heavier hitters but lacked the skill set of Tyson's opponents.

  6. for example who.... tell me a rival of tyson who lewis might not beat or destroy....
i can tell you a man who tyson could not defeat.... holyfield...
i can tell you a man who would have beat any version of tyson 89 forward. vitali klitschko 2003.
tua and mercer would give tyson several problems...
and morrison would have been a more dangerous rival than ruddock was.

No worries. Over the years weve bantered back and forth, I've disagreed with you on some thing, but you've earned my respect, so no worries, perhaps I did misread your post.

But back to the topic at hand, a prime Lewis - Tyson bout would to me be almost a coin flip as to who would win. But if forced to bet on the fight, I'd probably bet on Lewis, simply because he's alway been more consistant and I do think the way he beat a shot Tyson is a formula that would work at any stage in Tyson's career.

Lewis will always be too big for Tyson.

  9. THE SIZE IS NOT MATTER, IT IS ABSURD. AND LEWIS was just TALLER... LEWIS IN HIS PRIME IN HIS 20s weighed 220-235 in 6´5, a prime tyson weighed 216-221 in 5´11.

Holmes was 138 yrs old and rusty, while Spinks was a beefy light-heavy who was slow and sluggish at 212 pounds... Tyson was also favored in both fights, too....

Lewis all the way. Too big, strong, and skilled. When focused, very difficult to force into mistakes. This is the case of the good big guy beating the good little guy.

I don't agree with some of the above statements. I could have sworn the subject was PRIME FOR PRIME. But to answer your question, I believe a focused Tyson, you know...the one in his prime, would beat Holyfield more emphatically than Lewis did. I agree that Tua and Mercer would be tough opponents as well. Both had great chins, but the consensus is that Tua is very limited and Mercer wasn't the best defensive fighter. In my opinion Tyson knocks them out. Morrison gets blasted out within 2 rounds.

The 80's were an underrated decade for heavyweights. The Heavyweight lot that Tyson fought was more established. I've highlighted in

It was a crack at Rooster. Don't hold it too high there Bill. I still feel the wins are solid, though.

Beating "rusty" Holmes in four rounds they way Tyson did, is still ten times more impressive than Lewis beating Mike Grant or Andrew Golota.
