Tyson knocks him out cold. If ordinary palookas like McCall and Rahman could get Lewis out of their, a prime Tyson would shatter that suspect chin!

Tyson was throwing a super wide hook which finished him in very poor balance and allowed Lewis to land that uppercut that supposedely hurt Tyson badly.
Tyson was bobbing and weaving, but I wouldnt say it was anything close to the well balanced prime Tyson that could at least add another couple punches to his assault.

Yes, but this is what he is up against with Lewis, whatever version meets the primed one. A man with a huge height advantage who, by this stage had very organised footwork and reactions. It seems likely to me given the make-up of the duel for range that Tyson would be left in exactly this position, against the best puncher he would ever face.

I agree. What comes back is also a factor here however.

Incidently, this is a weirdly hypnotic fight for me. I quite often get into chats about it on the forum and end up watching it right through, like now.

 I disagree with this post but it maybe the best insult I've even seen in the Classic Section, well done and keep it up. But with other posters - don't victimise our McGrain, or you'll be in trouble, ya dig?

I'm not really sure about the income but I'll make a few points

    1. Lewis has the balls/belief, timing, speed, range to smash Tyson with big shots and fire back after Tyson hits him. That disrupts Tyson's rythm

    2. Obviously Tyson has better stamina and keeps up the pressure longer, hurts Lewis more, stays dangerous longer. Has more rounds like the first

    3. Lewis too would have more stamina/speed in his prime, lets not pretend Tyson faced a prime Lewis either. But age hit Tyson harder than Lewis, a shorter pressure fighter needs more stamina than a rangy boxer puncher

    4. Lennox's counters may always slow Tyson's attacks

    5. Lennox's uppercut inside is always a problem for Tyson, but Prime Tyson may uppercut more himself, step off to the side when inside and work bodyshots and uppercuts making him less tagable. Lewis's jab and counter right always pose a problem for Tyson

    6. Tyson had bigger balls before he was spoilt by being an out and out demi-god megastar post Spinks

    7. This is 1 of the closest H2H matches there is out there

i used to lazily classify tyson as a bully type fighter with consumate speed and power, who essentially crumbled when he faced any fighter who stood up to him..then i rewatched the ruddock fights...and remebered he took a thumping from buster, didnt just look for a soft spot..ditto holyfield....tyson had big bollocks no doubt, and he could fight at pace when he was 'prime' for a full 12 rounds if needs be AND carried his power with him throughout the fight....i think as time goes by we will realise that tysons quick fall from grace and subsequent reliance on sycophantic trainers and afast diminishing aura of menace means we tend to forget what a ****in wrecking ball the guy was in his admittedly short 'prime'

Im not so sure Tyson of 88 would become as discouraged as quickly as he did against Lewis. We saw him walk through a **** load of comparable power shots against Ruddock to land his shots.

if those bombs of ruddock didnt deter tyson, and i remember him almost gleefully telling the camera ruddock hit like ' a ****in mule'....lennox wouldnt, couldnt discourage him either....the young tyson had the fire, the will, the passion...i just think latterly he fell out of love with the game as it fell out of love with him

I remember the 6th round of the first Ruddock fight were Ruddock tags him with the "smash" and afterwards he points to his chin offering Ruddock a free shot in a show of Bravado. That was ballsy, that showed that he still wanted to fight.

I'm not convinced that Lewis would have actually discourage him with big shots since Tyson had a stellar chin.

This fight isn't a blow out for either guy. The fight will look alot like the first round in terms of ebb and flow and both fighters having success...

Ultimately I think Tyson's offensive output will prevail in a fight he had to work for; a late stoppage or clear but close decision win is what I see.

Lenny would have hit him more often and cleaner than Rudduck though, plus Tyson has a greater gap to close

Ruddock wouldnt have hit Tyson more in 88 than he did in 91. The Ruddock fight was just an example of Tysons mindset while getting hit really hard which was a lot different in 2001 where he basically just gave up once he was under any kind of pressure.

:goodI agree with pretty much everything you say. Especially point number 3. I also see Lewis' mentality to be a major factor, he always had supreme self belief and definately would'nt be intimadated by Tyson, i would dare to say Lewis' opponents were just has intimitated by him as they were by Tyson, it just was'nt magnified in the same way by the media.
If they were to fight 10 ten times i would pick Lewis 9 times, Tyson may be lucky to land a honey punch once during the 10 fights, and that's the only way he beats Lewis by hitting the jackpot. Something that only happened twice to Lewis which was more down to over-self confidence, than a lack of chin.

The parts about Lewis being one of the best combination punchers in history and Tyson being neutralized by tall fighters with good jabs made me laugh at least.

Both guys bring things to the table which will help them. In the end I don't think Lewis has the lateral movement, reflexes, and durability necessary to deal with a prime Tyson spinning on all cylinders. But I probably pick Lewis over any Tyson post Spinks.
