Notice that Lennox had rematch when he think he could win the next time around... but he never had rematch against Mercer and Vitali. Holyfield was definetely pass his peak already. Even in Mccall rematch, Lennox never manage to hurt him even after Mccall started to drop his guard.

Lennox Lewis’s fight to lose. He’d have an easier time with Ali then Ray Mercer- isn’t that weird to think? He would do the unthinkable and abuse a very simple hole in Ali’s game- he’d jab with him and take advantage of Ali being forced to come forward like no one else could.

Ali would be giving up two inches of height, thirty pounds of weight, and four inches of reach. That's not an insurmountable size difference as he fought tall. Interesting fight . Cross era comparisons are difficult.

Mercer become irrelevant and inactive after his fight with Lewis. Mercer had a controversial decision win against an old Witherspoon after his fight with Lewis, and then only fought a handful of times in a 4 year period.

If Mercer had been active and kept up his form, I'm sure a rematch could've been made somewhere down the line. But Lewis was chasing a Tyson fight at the time which fell through, and Mercer become inactive and irrelevant.

As for Vitali Lewis was already an aging champion, and saw himself slipping and decided to retire at right time. Kind of like Monzon did after his tough fight vs Valdes, I wish more fighters had that mentality and didn't keep fighting way past there prime.

Wuz thinkin' about dis lately and pre-exile Alì dominates while the early 70s version is where I start to be conflicted about the result and things get complicated. I would consider obv Alì the favourite but idk, somethin' tells me a possibility of an upset aren't that remote.
