At their best Ali UD's Lewis. Prime Lennox was just to slow for prime Ali.

I think this one can actually go either way, fine margins between Lewis's strength and power vs Ali's speed. I'd pick Lennox if pressed though, think the size would eventually tell more often than not. Who knows though?

Exactly a bad ass I the ring, he knew his ability. Don't tell me Lewis goes into the ring believing Ali beats him! Hahaha. Lewis was a boss. He's being polite.

Now what Lewis says and what Lewis believes are a lot different.

Good fight. Bit of a chess match the first few rounds. Round 4 Ali starts to find the distance and begins landing more. Lewis, frustrated, stalks Muhammad looking for a big shot but takes head snapping right hands for his trouble. Round 8 Ali slows down just enough to let Lewis slip back into the fight. Round 10 a solid right by Lennox makes Ali cover up in the corner. Round 10 and 11 sees Ali tired but landing again with authority. Lewis looks ragged going into the 12th, over commits to several right hands and finds himself the victim of a flash knockdown. Ali wins a ud 114-113, 116-111, 115-112

Close to prime Lennox was out jabbed by shorter, slower and inferior to Ali Ray Mercer. Muhammed jabs Lennox's head off and dances his way to victory.

Growing up in the Ali era Ali would have to change what he does best and Lennox would win.

Jeez, just when you think the forum has turned a corner on nostalgia driven h2h evaluations they come up with this crazy poll result. Joe Louis would have had a much better chance of defying historical trends and beating a modern ATG SHW in Lewis than Ali. Ali had nothing for Lewis. Who beat Lewis? Guys who he underestimated and who had alot of power. Neither would be a factor here.

Ali was a SHW for his era. He was the first hw ATG to stand at least 6'3 and weigh 215. He had a size advantage in the great majority of his fights. He was either taller or heavier than his opponent in 20 out of his 24 title fights. That's almost Wlad level, and he outweighed his opponents more often than Wlad did. Two of the ones Ali didn't outsize were the dreadful Wepner, who knocked him down, and terrible Richard Dunn. Neither was a top 20 opponent.

Great champs of an era historically either have great size or great power, often both. Lewis had both. Joe Louis at least had great power, and could be a threat to put Lewis down. Ali didn't have that threat. He relied on his size, speed, and creativity when he fought. The former wouldn't be present against Lewis and the latter two historically have not proven successful at beating top guys much larger than them. He'd be in way over his head against an opponent the likes of which he'd never fought before.
