Too me this is one of if not the ultimate heavyweight match up. I can remember even as a kid thinking about this. I see Ali winning likely a decision. I feel Ali was big and strong enough to not be over powered by Lewis, by no means does Lewis have a big size advantage over Ali that he'd be able to utilize.I think Lewis would be the aggressor, I see Ali not dancing to much instead like against Foreman standing his ground throughout, coming over Lewis's jab with his right hand a lot and peppering him with combo's throughout like he did to Foreman. I think Lewis may even hit the canvas a lot like Foreman did and may even be stopped. Head to head its hard for me to pick any heavyweight over the great Ali IMO he truly was the greatest.

Prime Ali never lost period. Prime Ali beats rather easily prime Lewis. Just too quick. Ali's jab was scientifically measured to be quicker than SRR jab. If you watch Ali's fight with Liston in fight one his jab is so quick it's difficult to follow and impossible to slip or block consistently. Ali was just too fast and his punches cut opponents to ribbons.

Agreed. His fight with Liston was something special, Liston was a monster with tremendous skills to back up his physical tools but a prime Ali danced circles around him. That fight to me was a lot like Leonard Duran where one great fighters skills we're able to make another great lose his composure and quit.. The rematch as well I know all the controversy and what not but from where I stand Ali was the better man and knocked him out in the first round.

The clean punch to the chin that Ali landed against Foreman and Liston were something that could hit Lennox anytime. Lennox was wobbled against Bruno and Vitali, and Vitaly didnt even land his most powerfull shot in second round. It has been proven more than one occassion that Lennox can be stopped by a single punch. You're talking about prime vs prime, Lennox was KO'ed literally while in his prime.

How Lennox is going to stop prime Ali if he couldnt stop a much smaller fighters like Mercer and Tua? Mercer is like 34-35 when he fought Lennox.

Ali didnt get knockdown when fighting Holmes while already suffered parkinson and clearly out of shape! look at how much punishment he took from Holmes and Foreman... Lennox needs to land even more than that to even have a chance of beating prime Ali

He didn't seem to have much trouble with Terrell, who was considered the best jabber after Liston ,that's two he beat!

The way he boxed against Terrell shows how he would box against any SHW sized man imo.

He would stick to the outside, jabbing and clinch when he got backed to the ropes.

I don't see Lewis being able to pin Ali down, so the question is who would land the jab first. I've yet to see a HW with as good a jab as Ali in terms of speed and yet to see someone who is that tall the speed is negated.

I would narrowly favour peak Ali by decision. He is the greatest heavyweight i have ever seen. Lewis would roll any post exile Ali by decision IMO.

the combination of size and speed and strength just over all better training. I will say that Ali's ability to take punishment was his number one asset. He got hit way to much and Lennox after Manny would have controlled the fight. Ali couldn't hurt unless a cut or something. the skill level of lennox was better than anyone Ali ever fought Maybe Patterson

Yes there is a consistant pattern, knocking Ali,Johnson, Louis,& Frazier, all the while boosting up Jeffries,The Klits and Marciano. Thankfully its so blatant it is easy to see and discount.

In what way would you say Lewis was the beneficiary of better training?

You are overestimating Ali's height. 6"2' and maybe a shadow on top of that.

Reach was measured at 79 inches.

    Otherwise great post as usual!
