Well Ali sure as hell is not the greatest...other than his self proclaimed greatness that is all he has. Ended up a shell of his former self beaten up by an 8 fight novice. Lewis never ended up in such a pathetic state.

He also lost alot of fights. In double digits if you count the gifts and fixes that went his way thanks to Don Kings methods.

Let us all see how he is rated in 20 years time. Lets see.

For anyone interested, here is what Emanuel Steward said when asked on that hypothetical:

A Mythical Dream Bout Between Lewis and Prime Muhammad Ali:

I would think Ali, first of all, was a very special unique fighter, and his rhythm and ability to feint, make adjustments, take a punch, his stamina, everything! But also I think part of what Ali had was a psychological advantage he always had, which no one speaks about that. He intimidated a lot of his opponents. Most heavyweights have big bodies, but ‘inside’ as I call it, most of them are weak. And Ali was so strong, and then his whole image including with Sonny Liston. He did all of that bragging and then he had his entourage, which people don’t realize and they don’t like to talk about it, but it was very intimidating. A big part of it was Dundee and all of them threatening, and they would come in with about fifteen-twenty people, and that was most heavy especially when you had nice passive guys like Zora Folley, and all of those types of guys. It was just too much for those guys, and even for Sonny Liston! Actually that whole gang of his, so to say, broke down most guys.

But in Lennox’s case, I think it would be a very difficult fight for me to even say what would happen, because Ali had a lot of tremendous assets with the movement and everything. But we still have to remember that size is important, and Lennox at 6’5” was about another two and a half inches taller than Ali, and Lennox had a really good jab himself. Lennox was mentally never a weak person. That’s one thing is I don’t think Lennox would be easily intimidated the way those guys were. Lennox had his own built-in gangster and thug side inside of him.

I can’t really put one generation against another one, but in your mind you can look at it. I think it would have been a tough fight. I don’t think Ali would be able to do like he did with Ernie Terrell, who even though Ernie was taller, Ernie didn’t have that mental toughness. He was intimidated by, and I always say ‘Ali’s everything’. It was his whole being. It was not just Ali. It was that whole crowd that he brought intimidated most of those guys. I think Lennox would have been able to hold up to that, and it would have been to me a toss-up fight. I really can’t say.

I just don’t think Ali could have easily outbox him, because of the size of Lennox, and Lennox could move on his feet pretty good, too. But Ali was the type of guy who found a way to win. I don’t know! It would have been a very tough fight for Ali, I could tell you that, though! He wouldn’t have been able to just easily outbox Lennox, and he wouldn’t have been able to intimidate Lennox with his whole gang, so to say. It would have been tough fight!

****ing lol when people seriously think heavyweights of GOAT calibre couldn't knock each other out. It only takes one punch in the right place.

The delusional Yanks who voted Ali, ought to get off the drugs they are addicted to. Pre ban Ali, possibly wins, the post ban version gets ridiculed, humiliated, and probably stopped.

That version comes under the Holmes, statement about Marciano. Not fit to carry Lewis jockstrap.

Don't forget LL loved beating Yanks, particularly loud mouthed ones, and they don't come louder mouthed than Ali was.

Ive sat & read this thread now I'll give my 2 cents worth......

1..... No heavyweight fighter in history beats a pre lay off Ali. You all seem to forget that we were denied seeing Ali in his prime for 3 1/2 years. Just imagine what he would have achieved if that ban hadn't been imposed.

2.... Lennox is the best heavyweight champion since Ali. Lennox beat every man he ever faced in the pro ring. When he was 100% fit & in fighting shape no one but Ali would beat him

3... The Ali-Lewis fight with both in their prime would be one to salivate over. I see Ali taking a decision win over a very brave Lewis

I'll say it again, the pre ban Ali possibly beats Lewis due to his mobility and footspeed, but make no bones about it for Ali Lennox would be at the top of his game both mentally and physically. He wouldn't have treated him with the contempt he treated those bums, McCall, and Rahman.

Any version of the post ban Ali, gets the kind of beating he took from Holmes. There is no way he would have clinched and pulled down on the neck of the gigantic Lewis to take breathers the way he did after the 3 year plus lay off.

LL would be the much stronger man in the clinches, and he would jab, jab, right hand Ali all night long. If anything Lewis by stoppage or wide UD with Ali taking far more punishment than he should have.

All those saying Ali would win via KO/TKO ??? Go look at all those that lasted the full distance with Ali - Ali was NOT a puncher. Look at Norton vs Ali...as much as i'm an Ali fan (big time a few years ago) I've watched the 3 norton fights and in my heart I cant say Ali won more than 1 of those and that was close. Norton was a major major problem for Ali and beat him 2 out of 3 times. Lewis > Norton by some way. I voted Lewis...most likely a points win.

Late 90s Lewis would absolutely demolish 60s Ali in a terrible mismatch.
